MapMaker: Underlay messes up area layer patterns

Has this been reported before?

When you switch on the the underlay in the MapMaker the area layers display strange:

Image

City is transparent with a polder pattern.
Town is a strange swamp pattern.
Industrial has trees
Etc.

It is not a show stopper, it is only a minor inconvenience.

Yep that happens. Rest assured that it only manifests in the MapMaker and while you are displaying the underlay. At all other times, including in the Game the correct patterns are displayed.
 
This has been on our wish list for a while now ( see TT below ). We have not given this a priority but now more and more users are using the MapMaker we better raise it on our wish list. Hopefully we can get to it for BFTB.

The great thing about the forum is that you hear of problems of others and hear about workarounds. I have run into a couple of problems that I read about before I  experienced them myself:
- the polder pattern
- calculating movement tables, visibility tables, and movement tables again.
- set scenario start to daytime to check visibility in scenario maker
- etc

So now more people know this happens, but it is not a serious problem.

Actually, I kind of like the opaque graphic substitution when the map overlay is inserted. It allows the terrain features that have been added to stand out more. I thought it was a deliberate feature[8|]

Its caused because when the underlay is turned on we use a different drawing method than we do at other times.

We may need to move to DirectX drawing before we can fix this properly, requires more investigation.
