Update Info II

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Update Info II

Post by Hard Sarge »

Well, I been wanting to post more on what is going on, but I also wanted to show more screen shots, and since we now have a game that is pretty much all placeholders, I didn't want to be showing that (some of them are inside jokes and other odd things)

{I really do like "our" name for the game}

okay lets see, what did we update, improve, change or screw up

one that I think every one will like, is the game itself, where before, if you played BTR, you knew how the game worked, and then if you went back to BoB, half of the things you knew you could do, you couldn't because they were added to the game later on (the Engines are close, but they are not the same)

well, the Engines are the same now, what works in BTR, works in BoB, it is one game, not two games that are sort of alike

you got a menu, and on that menu is your choices, BoB or BTR, click on which one you want and the info that game is loaded (they still use different maps and Databases)

so anything you can do in one, you can do in the other, the rules (with in reason) are the same, for game play and what not, there may be some HARD coding that only effects one game, but there are reasons for that, but overall, they are the same game now

Waypoints, we used to have 2 on the way in and 2 on the way out, I believe now, we have 4 on the way in and 4 on the way out
also, before, alot of complaints about how you plot a raid to hit a target and then fly around the Rhur Flak Zone, only to see the lead group follow the path you plotted and the rest take a short cut over the Rhur

now, if you plot it, the raid will follow it (of course, the planes get damaged, run low on fuel and what not, then they will break off and do what they got to do, but overall)

Recon
that one is tricky, some people think we should just get rid of it, others want more, and more, what we were able to do, is you still plot the recon mission (or have the AI assign it) and then once the pilot takes his pic, he will also take more pics, at times if the fly over is right, you may get 5 recon reports for one mission (you only get one report in the action action report, but your recon files will be updated, as will the map)

{just in case, you didn't know, one of the NFG's of the IXth AF, they were turned into a Night Recon unit about a month after they got to England, Recon was more importent then Night Fighters, also, towards the end of the war, at least one FG was also turned into a Recon Group, we had enough fighters, we needed more intell}

Sweeps, well, like me say, Sweeps can be nasty, a lot of uses and tricks can be done with them now, and we have added some tricks to how they work

Reports, the unit type page now shows more info, you click on say the P-40, and all your P-40 units will show up, also you will see how many planes each unit has shot down and how many planes that unit has lost

go to a unit on that page and open it's info page, you will also see how many kills it has, how many Ground kills it has (if any) also you will see how many planes it has lost, and how many it has lost to AA fire, the pilot page, will show the info you remember from before, but Ground kills for each pilot is also listed

plane types
well, if you like Spitfires, you got Spitfires, we got 2 models of the V, 4 models of the IX, 2 of the XIV (not counting any of the recon models) plus there is the VII and the VIII (I really like this bird) and the XII, I want to add the 21, but that may have to wait for later

now the VII and XII are limited Production run models, so you will only get so many, but while you got em, they will be fun

there are low level Spits, normal Spits and High level Spits, in fact, we may have more Spits then you can (oh, never mind)

on the GE side, you like FW's ? we got the A-5, the A-6, the A-8, the D-9 oh, and the A-8

which that last one may sound strange, but yes, there are two types of A-8s, the Fighter, and the Sturm, it has more Armor, more protection, but flys like a pig, which, if you one the fighter, no hassle, just build the fighter when the time comes, you want the Sturm model, you need to built different parts for it

and most of the Ge planes, come in a Light and a Heavy model, say the 109 G-6, you can have the Gruppen either fly the G-6, or click a button and it flys the G-6/R-6, the 190 A-6 is the base, but it can become the A-6/R-1, you lose a Wing 20mm, but gain a underwing Pod of duel 20mm's

each type has good things and bad things, the more weight and the more guns, the slower the model is, and the lower the MRV

like the Terrable Twins, you can fly the base model, or jack up the Weapon load, if it gets into a shot up Formation of bombers, look out poor bombers, if it gets inside a formation of P-47s or 51s, Poor Twin

a old complaint was that fighters once they ran out of gas, were sitting ducks, you really had to blow a die roll, not to get a easy kill on one

well, now, you got a chance for the returning fighter to still make attacks, so you may get a horde of little red boxes going west and a horde of blue boxes going east and you may still ended up having combat going on, it is not going to happen every time, but it can and does happen

a Major complaint was the FB

plot a raid of Tiffies and let a Gruppen of FW's bounce it, a lot of dead Tiffies, very rarely did they even get a chance to fire back, they just died

no more, the Tiffy, the Cane, the Whirlwind, they will fight back, they will attack, to be honest, if a Raid of Tiffies with a full load out of bombs gets bounced by FW's it is still going to be a mess, but the Tiffies can drop there bombs and attack, and they can and will fight back

also, Tiffies can excourt other Tiffies, so you may plots 3 Squadrons of Tiffies to attack this target and then assign 4 Squadrons of Tiffies to fly high cover for the raid, if that Gruppen of FW's shows up, they got company, looking to play

here is a picture of the results of a recon mission (well, I sent out a number of birds, but this what the results of the missions look like)

for that turn, I plotted for Radar and Chem Factories (well the AI did the plotting) as you can see, much more then what I plotted for, got reconned

it is a little HARD to see, as I took a fuller size shot to show all of them, but there are 3 or 4 raids all following the same basic path, and then all branch off at the same point

of course, as I was plotting to show instead of trying to kill the bad guys, I got some of the timing wrong

you can see the Mossies are leaded the charge, they were suppost to lagg behind a little bit to like the GE react to the other raids, but, only lost one to AA, one to a Crash and one to a 2005 (now that is a nice bird, I may of overmodelled that one :)

from the other screen, none of the sweeps were plotted yet, so you will see a couple of units flying that were not in the preplot picture

my raid of Balt V's got 5 MC 205 on the ground and then beat feet

the B-25s did well, and the English Boston IIIs did a decent job, the GE had finally pulled back some from the south, so much of the plotting was over kill, but better safe then sorry

okay this should be a unit page, of Kittyhawks

Well, they would be Kittyhawks, if they were GB Squadrons

as you can see, the 57th has done well, the P-40 F, down low is a pretty good plane, over 15-18 K, it is a pig, over 21 K, it is dead meat on the table for any passing 109

maybe this is a Kittyhawk

Dagnabbit

Lousy P-40 again

hmm, 18 kills, the unit has lost 3 planes, 2 of those losses have come from AA fire

the excourt (escourt ?, could of swoarn there was a X in there) radius is if it was flying with a bomber, the real radius is if it flys by itself, right now those are more for me, then for the player, but I think both are useful, so may leave them in

plus from that page, you can change the plane type or look at the pilots or if in the right phase, move the unit to a new airfield, or you can do that from the normal move unit button

Opps, well, trust me (really) that group of Pilots are flying Kittyhawk IIIs, and doing a decent job of it too

they have picked off 8 planes on the ground and not lost a plane in doing so (don't want to say how many planes were shot up, but all returned to base)

oh yea, in case you did not see from early posts, the old Bug we used to call the SAS bug, is no longer with with

no more of the sneaking types stealing in and killing planes and pilots a few days after a sweep, if you killed it during the sweep, you killed it, if you damaged it during the sweep, you damaged it

hehe, even better, you may remember the Dover bug, or the Belfast bug, which pretty much was a Sweep or close escourt (you sure there is not a X in there ?) and then would take off on a heading to Dover or Belfast, it is a thing of the past

also, what was called the Freeseray bug (still, really wasn't a bug, the program was doing what it was suppost to, only it wasn't what people thought it should be doing, of course, part of the hassle was it was waiting for the next command, only there wasn't one)

well, the FR is no longer either, you may not like the results if you hit a sweep head on, but it is not a FR, it is a Sweep that you just flew head on into, that may not be too happy to be meeting you

Hey look, there are some Kittyhawks in there, see, I wasn't lieing !, honestly

this game, first turn, I was active on both fronts, then got some shaky weather up north, so most of the action was in the south, the AI was stubborn about letting me have the airspace over the toe

they changed there minds now

that is more to show some of the plane types what what is going on

will try to write some more tomorrow, was a long night at work last night

hope that at least gives you a little idea of what is going on

Wow! I can't wait to get my hands on it!

(What is "your" name for the game? Go on, you can tell me and nobody will ever know...)

to be honest, I can't wait to play the thing either !, most times I really get to see it run, I am looking to see if something I added works or not, or shows up when it is suppost to, I do have a pretty good first turn set up worked out, only plotted it 3000 times

(which is good for a reason, I know what to expect from the day, so if I don't see what I know should be happening, then I got a area to look at)

the name ? well, they not my names, but things that have been said in the forum

Trade secrets and all, can't tell (yet)

HS, thanks for the pics and info.  You guys have done a great job.  [&o] Enough of kissing up.  So is there any chance for the GE's?  Seems that the Allies send in sweeps, kill lots of jerries, then there are none to fight the bombers.  I guess I am waiting to see some results of bombing raids that the germans hit hard!!  Thanks again for all you hard work.
