RE: Battle of Moulmein begins!

Post by aztez »

Quick update. Time is precious due to the fact that I have started a new job this week! [;)]

Game date is 13th of August 1944

India & Burma

Moulmein is turning into Pacific "Stalingrad". I did launch another deliribate assault but it was unsuccesfull.

Ground combat at Moulmein

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 222277 troops, 764 guns, 2390 vehicles, Assault Value = 3567

Defending force 144249 troops, 759 guns, 378 vehicles, Assault Value = 2543

Allied max assault: 3240 - adjusted assault: 2574

Japanese max defense: 1940 - adjusted defense: 2942

Allied assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 7)

Japanese ground losses:
2555 casualties reported
Guns lost 63
Vehicles lost 4

Allied ground losses:
5452 casualties reported
Guns lost 45
Vehicles lost 52

The good news is that the enemy infantry total has dropped to 140 000 men. [:-]

RAF and RN will continue bombard the place. Next turn an bombardment assault and than another delibirate assault is scheduled. Other good news is that there is now +400 000 supplies stored at Rangoon.

China

I'am moving Chinese units out of Chengtu. These troops will assault the Japanese divisions North of Chungking.

Otherwise China seems to be a stalemate.

Central & North Pacific

[>:][>:][>:][>:][>:]

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

The big news is that at least part of the KB is spotted North West of Marshalls!!!

I don't know whether FDR knows I have spotted the TF with my recon planes. Either way the allied CV Armada is moving into position to engage the KB!!! So, fingers crossed the big battle might be just around the corner! [;)]

Kwaleijin and Rabal have been bombed! Despite these efforts Kwaleijin continues to hold. I have now shipped more supplies into the atoll. US troops will rest and gain strenght there for a while before the final offensive will begun!

Timor has been quiet front. This is due to bad weather raging into the area.

You dont need much more at moulmein to make up the AV differance but the casualties are horrible. Must be done though i guess.

Good luck
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

KB meets destiny... Several CV's sunk near Marshalls.

Post by aztez »

Yeah. I think those are necessary losses and it has been that bloody for ages now. I doubt he can have much supplies piled up at Moulmein since the daily bombardments by RN and RAF. Another deliribate assault is scheduled next turn too.

Very bloody turn last one. FDR moved the KB and the Allied CV's did a number of his naval forces. More about it game summary part of this update.

Game date is 15th of August 1944

India & Burma

I'am moving more supplies into Rangoon area. The daily visits by RN and RAF have continued at Moulmein. As said another delibarate assault is scheduled on next turn.
This battle has raged now for weeks and the casualty levels are horrific for both sides.

China

Chinese units are moving into position north of Chungking. They will start their offensive very soon.

Central & North Pacific

Another US CV is heading towards Pearl Harbour. Also a lot of troop transports are enroute in CenPac.

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

The recon plane intel was 100% correct that I received last turn. I can't even imagine what would have happened had I not had this information available for me. Propably I would have had huge losses in transport and in battle ships.

KB had separated into two big TF. FDR said that the idea was that one TF would concentrate on tranports ships while the other was to deal with US CV's. Well it did not go as he planned.

All begun with allied raid againts his Japanese navy...

All in all I lost +250 ac's and FDR lost +800 ac's last turn. The KB suffered big time with this operation. I think it would have been good idea to wait my assault at DEI or Marianas. Had he moved those CV's into Indian Ocean than I would have been in deep trouble.

Yeah. But to be honest I did deliver the first blow in this encounter. He had many CV's damaged before he even had a chance of launching anykind of an strike.

As said also the LBA and CV ac's worked together. This was something I did not expect to happen but it really bolstered my CAP too.

I don't why most of FDR's strikes where small. Those where quite easy to repulse too.

Intel was good this time around. Had I not recieved I think my CV's would be pretty damaged now. My CV's where docked at Majuro so it would have been "easy" target for the KB.

I still haven't got the next turn so don't know how the pursuit went. A lot of Japanese capital ships are already confirmed sunk though.

I think the big question is that whether I should split my CV fleets now that KB has lost most of its firepower???
It is a big decision to be made.

Also I did offer FDR an redo from last turn. He is not propably going take it. As he said he took a risk and lost. The results were a combined Leyte Gulf and Marianas Turkey shoot if you look at the happenings historically. Anyway I think that offer had to be made. [:)]

Personally I would like to see an "operation" Olympic but I can't guarantee that I'am able push that hard. [;)]

PS: Just received an email from FDR. He doesn't want replay from last turn.

Hi Rob! Has the flu gone away? [:(] ....He definately cannot cut me off from Rahaeng. I have solid reserve in place already in Burma. He has 2nd Division and some supporting units there or nearby. I do actually bombard the place daily with my fighter bombers from Mandalay. (He does not have adequate suppy there either)

Victoria Point is an option but I haven't decieded yet. I do not have that many free transports ships to spare so the safest option would be head on collision at Tavoy assuming the Moulmein base will fall. [&:] Next turn another ground assault there and my troops are in bad shape but so are his too. If I can dislodge the enemy than bulk of his Burma army are useless!

As for your and Joe's question about those Subs. Well, those are RN submarines which are heading towards Malaya and DEI. FDR does not know it yet about this but It will become obvious soon enough! [:D]

Yeah, Marshalls are still the battle area. Next I will propably start moving through Solomons. The Idea is link up my CenPac, Oz (Timor) and South Pacific forces together. Than the propable targets are Philippines and Marianas. Ofcourse the push towards Singapore will continue with fierce offensives.

All I know is that I've heard rumours that the A2A model is getting revamped. I hope so. This was just another sad example with no Japanese planes making it through the CAP! LOL Hopefully we get some sort of patch before it ruins any CV battles in my games.
