World War Two
Beer and Pretzels Series
Scenario Design by EB with assistance from Uros Trsan, Dezso Bartha and Jason Otto.
Allied army of 767 units opposed to Axis army of 778 units for a battle of complexity 3.95 at Division(XX) level on a 50 Km/Hex map for 320 turns of Full Week each.
When I'm done with Inside The Reich, I'm gonna tackle this one... it seems a fun and unpredictable one as the first few turns represent the 20ies and 30ies where you have various TO's which can alter the course of history and alliances at the outbreak of hostilities... I fooled around a bit and saw that it can be possible for Austria and Czechoslovakia still to exist on Sep 1 1939, but then become the first victims of Hitler's quest for Lebensraum.
Beer and Pretzels? IMO not as the theatre is large... the whole of Europe/Russia, North Africa and the Middle East... OK on a smaller scale than Inside The Reich and others but managing multiple fronts poses its own complexities... note that there are no HQ units in this one.
The only drawback is the map which is quite schematic...
In Rugged Defense there's only the WotY version.
I found a ACOW version (converted it to TOAWIII) ... if only I could remember where I got it from duh!!![>:]

Silvanski:
I've got the ACOW version, but will be damned if I can find it on the 'usual' DL sites, LOL! Even checked the old WarfareHQ pages, no go.
Anyway, look forward to seeing how ToaW 3 handles this sce.
perhaps you can upload your T-3 version, eh?

AH HA! Found it http://www.toaw.co.uk/1939-1945.html the 'century of warfare operations room! as 'World War II _ EB'. This would be the acow version. The site's main-page url is http://www.toaw.co.uk/main.html . Totally rightious scenario list.
Last place I looked, naturlich!

Yep, by browsing around I found that site again as well [:D]
I converted it to TOAWIII and Elmer judged it to be a valid scenario [:)]

Here is the scenario for TOAWIII ... click attachement, then right-click to save target... on your pc rename the extension "txt" to "sce", et voila!

I'm playing it, and it's a gas! Lots of units, but it still has a beer & pretzels flavor. [:'(] Probably because there are lots of TO's, and thier interaction is unpredictable. (Until I play a few more games. [:D] Highly reccomended for WW2 junkies. [;)]

The fun (yes I use the politically incorrect term FUN[;)]) in this scenario seems to comprise of the fact that you don't know what's going to happen next.... so far there hasn't been a big deal of action.
Maybe because of the decisions in took the pre-war TO's.
I'm playing the Allies vs Axis PO.
On September 1 1940 the Germans invaded Austria and Czechoslovakia, trashed both armies, advanced towards Bratislava and halted.
Poland remains untouched.
All exclusion zones remain in effect. The Baltic states are still independent ...
The only movable units I have are the armies of Yugoslavia and the USSR which I use to fortify a bunch of hexes in preparation for an Axis onslaught, which undoubtedly will come. Dig or die! (see screeny of Turn 38 - April 6 1940)
What puzzles me is that the Romanian, Bulgarian and Hungarian units all share the same counter color.

It's been dull so far: no war with France and Britain... but something is bound to happen...
The above mentioned countries took sides and changed colors...
29 March 1941
Soviets and Japanese sign nonaggression pact.
17 May 1941
Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Yugoslavia join Axis!
Yugoslav officers stage coup against pro-Axis king!
However, the anti-Axis coup in Yugoslavia fails.
Yugoslavia surrenders! Without a fight... politics decided this to happen... all that diggin' in for nothing, but at least my Soviets had plenty of time and are prepared. I deployed them for a defense in depth and the approaches to important cities have been fortified...

RE: 1939 1945 - World War Two scenario by "ED"
Silvanski,
You seem to have uncovered a very interesting scenario.
I picked it up,made some choices and ended up with a very ahistorical outcome. The Soviets attacked Germany, so as I swept through Poland, I met Soviet troops and then swam through them towards the Urals, ending the game in December of 1939. At that point, last night, I had to go to bed.
Now, the game itself, in my opinion, does not use TOAW to its fullest potential in several areas. The OOB and TO&Es are weak, the map has no roads, and is lacking in different terrians, and, possibly, some other things that don't come to mind as I write.
Now, the one thing this scenario has really hit it off with is the initial TOs deciding what WWII will look like. I grew up on the Civilization series, where every time I sat down, I could get an entirely different game. I liked it, the variatability on a strategic scale is unmatched by TOAW's list of scenarios. I believe that thi scenario could become a real gem if some work were put into it to do either one or two of two different things:
1. Take a game like Europe Aflame, which is extremely strong on its own, and create an event matrix to do the sort of before game TO options that this one has, so that you can have a completely different WWII experience every time you play (not that you don't get a different experience every time you play EA, but this would be even more variable).
2. Take this game and flesh it out; The OOBs, TO&Es, and Map could all use a re-work. You could keep it very beer and pretzels, but improve the game's playability on the TOAW system.
I am curious to know if there would be interest in either or both of those potential projects.
P.S. Sorry for hijacking your thread, if there is any interest, another thread could easily be created to keep it out of this thread.

To repeat history in a game is to be predictable.

That's indeed a nice thing to end the day with [:D]
You'r right, with a more accurate map and the other things you mentioned this scenario has the potential... The combination of choosing pre-war TO's gives various possibilities for alliances... or as the notes say, nothing happens at all...
In my game the only action in the past turns were undertaken by the US army taking over Ireland, which had sided with the Axis [X(] Four units on naval transport supported by two air units took care of the matter in two weeks.

6 September 1941
Poland surrenders! Surrender is a huge word to describe what happened... some German units appeared inside the Polish zone and marched into Warsaw. Let's assume that what happened in Poland was like the historical events in Austria and Czechoslovakia. I didn't receive a single Polish unit.
4 October 1941
Soviet use of patriotic propaganda a great success! Is it because of this that the Germans didn't invade Russia [&:]
18 October 1941
It is getting damn cold in Russia!
Germans unprepared for harsh Soviet winter. So what? They haven't invaded Russia
29 November 1941
Japanese attack Pearl Harbor, Malaysia, and the Indies!
6 December 1941
Hoping to coax Japan into attacking the Soviets,
Roosevelt pledges to fight Germany! USA mobilizes! Yep, and I'm sending them to the British Isles
Germany declares war on the United States!
Japan will win the Pacific War during the war in Europe.
27 June 1942
DUBLIN has been reduced to ruins. The only country in the Axis alliance I actually can do something against
4 July 1942
Allied Powers capture DUBLIN. It's hamburgers with Guinness from now on
And for the rest, diggin' trenches... left click, right click, dig in etc etc...
I bet I chose exactly that combination of pre-war TO's which causes peace...

This one ended in a dull draw in September 1945... A next time I'll pick different pre-war TO's and let's see then what the outcome will be.
