Aaargh, didn't build supplies again!

Gary Grigsby’s World at War is back with a whole new set of features. World at War: A World Divided still gives complete control over the production, research and military strategy for your side, but in this new updated version you’ll also be able to bring spies into the mix as well as neutral country diplomacy, variable political events and much more. Perhaps the largest item is the ability to play a special Soviet vs. Allies scenario that occurs after the end of World War II.

Aaargh, didn't build supplies again!

Post by Raeder »

I bet 9 out of 10 players have done this at least once...

After carefully allocating all my builds and research, it is my habit to leave building supplies for the last part of the production phase, usually by clicking the "use all remaining production for supplies" button. Unfortunately, I occasionally forget to make that all-important mouse click. It is EXTREMELY frustrating to find my position completely screwed because the 50 supplies I counted on never got built, while those useless buggers at the factories sat on their thumbs instead of sending out the beans and bullets my troops desperately need.

Can we please correct this issue in AWD? All it would take to avoid this aggravation would be for the computer to give me a pop-up warning if I try to end the production phase without using all available production.

This is a great idea, indeed it would help a lot to get 2 warnings in fact:

One would be "Still remaining productions points. Want to continue (Y/N)" or something like it.

Now it happens also I forgot about supply points in the heat of the game so another warning could be "No supply points build this turn. Want to continue (Y/N)"

I know doing mistakes is part of the game but there is a difference between screwing up on the map and forgetting about supplying your troops.

Thanks.

Well, my ideal preference would be to be able to set a "minimum supply number" and have the computer remind me if I haven't produced enough to meet that minimum. But I would settle for a reminder that I have idle production capacity.

What really annoys me is that when you do click "use all remaining production for supplies", you get a popup asking if you really mean it. This warning is fairly pointless since if you do make this mistake you can unbuild the supplies manually.

If they were to add a warning for unused production, I'd suggest they also add one where the player has overspent and negative production is left. This seems to hang up a lot of newer players (and I will admit to doing it on occassion in the first couple games).

How about a checkbox for "spend all unused production on supplies" (=automation tool)?
Oh, and while we're at it, a single-click option for "spend as many research points as possible on this project" could be useful too.

I see the point made above, but too many warnings could prove to be bothersome.

SHIFT + left click does this.

Okeee, how about Auto-Build Supply with remaining points at end-of-build phase as default action\option? ?

We have a warning message come up if you try to exit the production phase with either unused production points or unused research points (you can't save them from turn to turn in AWD).
All understanding comes after the fact.

Oh, that rings a bell. It's like that since a later patch of standard WaW already, right? [:o]

Awww ,I still think auto-build option would be the way to go, its not like the war-economy works 9-5 anyhow. If you can picture it.

War Department: 'Sorry General' We cant send you any Ammo, fuel, food or bandaids this quarter
General Lee Undecided:'Why the Hell not!?'
War Department:'We ummm....well we kinda forgot to make any-we were too busy gawping at all those shiney tanks and planes rolling off the assembley lines we just plain forgot to bother makeing any bullets or fuel for em-hey mistakes happen right?, next quarter...reeeeallly....we promise

Auto build is an option but I prefer a popup screen asking to confirm instead. As you say it doesn't make sense to forget building supplies or leaving unused pts.

Still think 2 controls on "No supply build" and "Unused Production" confirmation screen would avoid those silly mistakes for the better.

I sometimes rush through things and find that with the new warning it is virtually impossible for these things to happen now.
