CHS 2.08 (Extended Map) + NikMod Needed

Post by Riva Ridge »

Getting my sea legs wet in a Coral Sea scenario (lost the Shoho but still have high hopes) and would like to start a Campaign Game '41 with an additional opponent. After researching it out and watching some AI in action, I would like to use CHS 2.08 with Extended Map and with Nik Mod A2A Experimental. I would like to be the Japanese but I am not married to it and would enjoy being the Allies as much. This is my single hobby outside of work and family and I REALLY committed to playing this GC out.

Options: Advanced Weather On, Allied Damage Control On, Both Sub Doctrine On (I am negotiable on this point), PDU On, Single Day Turn, 7DEC Surprise On, Variable Setup.

I am fairly open to anything the other side wants to try. If you are the Japs and want to load up everything for an all or nothing attack on Melbourne, go for it (shame on me for not keeping the home front guarded). but I do have a few house rules, most of which seem to be commonly accepted. I am negotiable on most of these so pleaes send back counter-proposal if you are interested in playing but have a problem with one or two of them. Also open to additional rules:

1. No bombing empty bases to artificially enhance pilot training.

2. All Chinese land and air units that are assigned to China Command HQ are only permitted to move, or base, within China, Japanese Occupied China or Manchukuo. Chinese land and air units can ONLY move to locations outside China if they are first transferred to another HQ.

3. Air units belonging to China Command are allowed to fly missions to hexes outside China.

4. All Australian nationality Brigade and Division LCUs are only allowed to move within Australia Proper, DEI, Solomon Islands, New Britain, New Guniea (For flexiability purposes, I could reason that Australia would see those as part of it's
expanded defense perimeter). The exception is all Australian LCUs of this size that are designated as AIF units, e.g. 9th Division AIF; the two AIF Brigades that start in Malaya. This restriction is permanent, even if the units are reassigned to a HQ other than ANZAC Command, and still applies even if a Division or Brigade is split into smaller units.

5. There are no restrictions for Australian air units, other than the normal restrictions that apply to air units that are assigned to the ANZAC Command restricted HQ.

6. Canadian land and air units can only be deployed in North America, including Canada, the USA, Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. This restriction is permanent, even if the units are reassigned to a HQ other than Canada Command.

7. Japanese land and air units that are assigned to the Kwantung Area Army HQ can not leave Manchukuo. They may leave if they are transferred to another HQ.

8. If playing as the Japanese vs. the AI or a PBEM opponent, then if the player decides to attack the Soviet Union (including the base of Urumchi in Western China), they should ensure that the first, or equal first, hex they enter is hex 65,32 (this hex is easy to enter, using the railway from hex 64,31). This will ensure that Soviet Union entry is properly triggered.

9. B29 aren´t allowed on naval attack.

10. B29 only on level 6 or 7+ airfields, this should limit them to places that were big enough in real life.

11. Restriction on Atoll Landings to 50,000 troops attacking or defending (Find it unreasonable to think that 100,000-200,000 invading wake island).

Regards,

C

Your house rule #11 would cause a problem. If the defender has 50,000 troops, then an attacker would have to have much more than that to capture it. If Japan puts 50,000 troops on an atol then the Allies could never take it.

I see your point.  In retrospect, it would probably do to strike that rule for two reasons:

1)  If a Japanese Player has 50,000(+) on an atoll, than he also bears the burden of supplying it which would become increasing hard in later years and 50,000 would represent a rather large investment of ground forces meaning something else would be uncovered.

2)  If the Allied Player has 50,000(+) on an atoll, same problem during an early scenario including having to supply during a time when Japs have naval superiority.  Later on, not so much a problem.

Rule #11 is struck.

There is also a problem with your restriction #4. Historically, ALL the Allied landings in the DEI (with the exception of those on the Northern New Guinea coast) were made exclusively by Australian units.

Mike,

Yep.  That was why I changed the original CHS House Rule to read the way it does in the message.."All Australian nationality Brigade and Division LCUs are only allowed to move within Australia Proper, DEI, Solomon Islands, New Britain, New Guniea".  My rationale for divergence from the reccomended CHS house rule was that I thought it would unfairly constrain the Australian player.  If I was an Australian Operational Planner in WWII, I would not settle for Japanese Airbases in DEI or Solomon Islands that could range my Merchant Shipping or my home territory and I would regard the above areas as part of my outer perimeter.  Please let me know if I confused something here.  :-)

RR... I have a question about your moniker. I was a student at Hanover Academy back during the years that Meadow Stables was fielding Riva Ridge and Secretariat (HA is just down the road a few miles from the stables). Are you from Doswell or nearby? I no longer live back there, and so was just wondering...
fair winds,

Riva Ridge was the name of a Battle in World War II that one of my relatives fought.  It was in 1945 as the Allies were attacking an entrenched German position in northern Italy and the Americans flanked the German position by moving up an a previously unclimable mountain called Riva Ridge.
