Why I havent been around for awhile

Post by wodin »

Hello All,

As some may have noticed I havent been posting as much recently.

Well for a long time now on and off I've been battling addiction.

I've been having a terrible time trying to beat it and I'm going to finally finish the demon off starting Friday. Hopefully it should take three days to overcome the withdrawel and I do have some medication to help me through (which I will be getting on Friday).

Ive decided to post this here as a first step in getting clean.

I have wasted a fair few years of my life and I desperately want to get back on track. My self confidence is shot to pieces and now that I've reached 35 I really cant afford to waste any more. We shall be moving area in the next few months which will help me no end. Ive been harrassed here by a gang of youths for 5 years (Nothing todo with my addiction) and I go to court to testify against one of them on 30th October. Ive been threatened not togo to court but Im going. The hard grim souless way of lfe in the inner city has really taken its toll and the move will thank god take us away from here.

Anyway I've not disapeared just faded a little.

Hey Good luck Wodin[:D]

my hopes, thoughts, and prayers are with you. Also I've seen you post about the problems in your neighborhood before, I am glad to see you are doing something about it by appearing in court, and it probably is best that you are moving. Are you moving within the same city or much further?

I respect your courage and determination to lick this thing.

I know you can do it! Feel free to email me if you ever need some kind of extra support in your battle.

Wodin buddy, been missing you at your various haunts.

Hope all continues to go well.

Addictions, yeah some are big some are small, all can just as easily wreck a life though, and never should be taken lightly. Even the seemingly harmless little demons can do you in.

I've had my share of battles with life altering headaches. Hope yours gets beaten.

Moving away from the current locale also might be a benefit in many ways.
I LIKE that my life bothers them,
Why should I be the only one bothered by it eh.

Good luck Wodin...and remember, if you sort yourself out, and Arjuna gets BftB done before Christmas, you've got a free copy. I'm a man of my word.

You don't say what your addiction is (I could guess anti-depressants!!)...but I've had a few of my own in my life. The two main ones I've had to deal with are smoking and chocolate....still fighting the last bugger. I know they are tame to other addictions, but they are also life killers and I needed to sort them out.

Good luck and get it whatever it is kicked...you know that only you can do it!!

Good luck mate.

My suggestions
1. Move to a country area. Living's cheaper and there are often jobs available for those willing to work hard.
2. Get into fitness. It's the best medicine for feeling down and addiction.

Thanks for the support.

In the early ninties I used to go to raves. I smoked dope, took LSD (to many times to mention) and Ecstasy. Then in '92 I starting taking Heroin to help come down of the pills.

Since then on and off I've been fighting it.

This time I will beat it.

Again thanks for your support. I've never commited a crime to feed my addiction so I hope I haven't lost any forum mates after coming clean.

JudgeDredd,

Thanks for that very kind offer. Its really appreciated. However I wouldn't want you to spend any money on me as in the end my trouble's are self inflicted and I honestly don't think I deserve your generous gift.

M8...take advice from someone who knows....kick it cold turkey. If you do that, and it will take a stonger man than most are, then you will always remember how hard it was to come off...and that, alone, will keep you off. Self belief, courage and conviction. Little things that everyone has (but not everyone knows to what extent) and they cost nothing. All of those will help you do it

But you need support and help...so you just come on here and post anytime you like. Email me or pm me. But get off and stay off that sh!t.

Good luck m8 - you'll need it...but if you do it, you'll be a better man for it...and your wife will see the benefits too.

Hia Wodin,

I have not posted here in a while, but am sure my notiorious reputation precedes me. I had to post as your post was such an honest and forthright post.

I have done my share of the substances and been addicted to a couple. Its not easy and if you are an addictive personality its even harder. These things are tough to beat, but the move for you out of the city will be the biggest help. Changing scenery and friends is a big first step!

Good luck!

I shouldn't worry, Wodin...There's no way BftB will be complete...but we can wish.

Good luck anyways and ignore my "...take it from someone who knows...kick it cold turkey..." comment...everyone is different. You kick it whichever way lets you kick it...as long as you get off it, it doesn't matter how you do it. [:D]

Yup. hang in there and take things a day at a time.

As someone who was addicted to pain killers (I am 90 percent disabled) I share your pain. Believe this Ageing 70's hippy when I say I am thinking of yoo and beaming out good vibes from my wee hoose deep in the Scottish Countryside. [:D]

JUST TAKE IT ONE DAY AT A TIME!

Cheers

Wodin,

As Krishna said to Arjuna on the even of the great battle in the Bhagavagita, first amongst the virtues is courage. With courage you can conquer anything. Your post here proves you have the right stuff. All the best and in the event that BFTB isn't out for Xmas I'll supply a copy gratis when it is. You better ask the Judge to remind me though. [;)]

Woodin,

All the best wishes.  I know a bit of your struggle - had my own back when.  Hope you can find some friends who are doing the same - 12 step programs helped me a lot, especially at first.  Two pieces of advice that helped me were "Constant vigilance" and "One day at a time".
Take care,

Wodin, My thoughts and prayers are with you.  I have given up cigarettes and drinking (former going on 2 years now, latter over 15).  Keep thinking of how wonderful life will be without it.  Even today I still get urges but it becomes easier and easier.  I wish you the best!

I always liked the Matrix Games community, despite the anonymity of it all.  But what more could people want than to have friends (though near-strangers) from across the world band together to support each other?

Wodin

I have walked in your shoes with my own Addiction to Alcohol. As rough as things seem now, it will get better. As each day passes you will get more and more of yourself back which is a wonderful gift.
Again thanks for your support. I've never commited a crime to feed my addiction so I hope I haven't lost any forum mates after coming clean.

If anything our respect grows, because it is a difficult thing to admit to ones self much less to a group. You have taken a MAJOR step towards recovery.

You desrve recovery and all that comes with it. When I was at rock bottom, I did not feel I deserved anything and it made me mad when my counselor told me that I did. One day I realized he was right.

From all of the responses here, you have alot of people behind you, and there is strength in numbers.

You are headed in the right direction and you are in my prayers. I am on this site every day so PM me if you need someone to talk to.

Well if he doesn't get the game for you, I'd be happy to do it myself. Anyone willing to accept their own faults 100% like that deserves my respect and help.

I hope you get out of the city asap...
