BftB, how big will it be?

Post by BigDuke66 »

Well we saw HTTR split into 3 maps also COTAs Crete operation was split into 3 maps.
Will BftB feature the whole campaign on one map?

Will it offer smaller scale units (platoon, sections)?
Will the SFX´s be revised?

I'm not part of the WF DDT, but I can assure you that all important actions will be covered. The game will stay at the company level which means  that it won't be a single map as no sstem could ever be able to sustain as high a number of units as it would cover. (let's say 100 units for a division and multiply that for each division that found themselves in the whole bulge between Namur and the West wall!!! [X(] ) It would also quickly become a mess to control and not much fun I fear... unless there were TMP (team multiplayer) :drools: , though the problem of finding 20 guys willing to play at the same time and of your system performance would stay entire.

There are estabs for platoon & troop sized armored, recon and infantry units, mainly to allow accurate representation of the spread out US line on the 1st day. They pop up here and there in the later scenarios as well.

The largest scenarios involve roughly a single Corps on either side. Anything bigger would be a bit overwhelming for a single player (and the complex AI) I would think.

Off the main topic but related to this...I would be very happy for a campaign consisting of linked scenarios where casualties etc are carried...a bit like Combat Mission operations

Yeh, yeh I hear you. I've just uploaded the COTA Patch installer and already I'm being harrassed about BFTB. Is there no rest for the wicked? [;)]

Re. Maps for BFTB. No there will be no single map covering the entire bulge battle area. That was some 120 x 150 kms and that is huge at our scale. Moreover, as Richard pointed out there would be far too many units fro current day cpus to handle. There will be separate maps for all key areas though and there's quite a number let me tell you. More info soon.

Anxious for the Bulge here! I know it's an overdone campaign, but it has never been done like this.
