There is no way to force a player into retirement at that level. At the pro level, players retire on their own time.

Section 8.1.9 in the manual has a chart that shows the player retirement values for the various league levels.

Good point, because sometime players (Jerry Rice, Johnny U., Franco Harris, Joe Namath, etc....) don't realize they are washed up [:D]

I know you say that in jest, but it's not far from the truth and is why the feature works the way it does. Not knowing when a player is going to retire is something that every team has to deal with.

Some players retire due to injury or other reasons (some are arrested, although the game doesn't cover that reason [:)] )

Other players however seem to stick around forever. Danny McManus in Calgary (Formally Hamilton) is, in my opinion, a player that has overstayed his on field usefulness. He'll make a heck of a coach, but should hang up the cleats.. but he keeps going.

And then there are some players that seem ageless. Damon Allen just became the pro football all time passer. And at age 41 he still runs like a gazelle.

The reason that the other league styles have forced player retirement is simply because that's how other leagues work. The high school and junior leagues don't have players 'retire' but after 3 or 4 years they are pretty much forced to move on to other things and so I consider it 'retired'.

So I guess that's good news for any Bengals fans who want to have an NFL league [:D]

The Vikings traded, cut, or benched all of their players that would not conform.  Brad Childress is really a Borg.

I watch a lot of Vikes games b/c I split Sunday Ticket with a Vikes fan. At least the Borg has them going in the right direction. Brad Garrett - I mean Mike Tice - was just prepping for his second career as Garrett's body double. Seriously, he looks AND sounds just like him. I can imagine Tice grumbling, "Everyone loves Raymond!"

On a second Vikes thought, I feel sorry for you because you almost always get stuck with Bill Maas doing color commentary. He's like John Madden Jr. in all the wrong ways...although the Pat Williams comment on his caloric intake two weeks ago was hilarious [:D] I laugh just thinking about it because it might be the best fat joke of all time.

Yeah, the Vikings aften get stuck with the Fox third or fourth team announcers.  At least it's better than the ESPN guys.  They are brutal.

When I am at home for games, I turn up the homers on the radio.  When I am at the in-laws watching the HD plasma, they have to put up with my comments about line blocking, defensive schemes, and gameplans, so no one hears the announcers anyway. [;)]

Of course, when I am at a game, I could care less who the announcers are on television.  I am usually too worried about things like how much all of the tailgaiting brats, burritos, and beers will force me to go to the restroom on a scoring drive.

Hey Guys,
Yeah thats what i actually do i cut players[:)] For example in my game The New Orleans Saints Ken Stabler was awful all year last season and continued on this season, had to cut him this season and went to a third string Quarterback and boy they are still awful[:D] Ok that was funny, but the Jets in the other hand went to their third stringer, Man they have won 5 straight. Well as you can see I enjoy this Game

No, that is Mr. Vick.  He isn't a very good quarterback.

The option experiment may go on, but I doubt it waill have the results it did in the first two weeks.

LIES!!! BLASPHEMY!!! hehe...just kidding. Vick is a terrific athelete, but just like his brother, lacks the mental capacity to be a QB. I risk life and limb saying that (since I work at VT, but only since 2003). Yup, Ron Mexico and his younger brother are both pieces of work (not sure if many people outside of VT know the Ron Mexico joke, but it's worth your time to look into it). The real shame is Leftwich is going to be a very good QB, yet everyone assumes Vick is the better.

I have officially hijacked this topic.

Ron Mexico!  [:D]  Yeah, I know what that's about, and he got busted!

By the way, Vick may be the only player in NFL history with a greater YPC than YPA for a 16 game starter at quarterback.  I've said many times that the Falcons would be better of making him a running back.

I'm not sure Leftwich is going to be any good.  His QB Rating chart looks like an EKG heart monitor.

Leftwich is the product of a hyper-conservative offensive system. Del Rio and company haven't unleashed him yet, much like Roethlesberger was protected his rookie year. Leftwich is a gamer, someone who isn't going to crack under pressure, the only other QB that can match him in heart is McNair. I think Leftwich is in the top third of the starting QB's in the game in overall package.

Finally, I've met people who aren't wowed by Mike Vick's scrambling ability and arm strength, and see him for the mediocre QB he is. Halellujah

I remember when he was in his Senior season at Virginia Tech, a colour commentator mentioning that the coaching staff at VT would only give him a play book with the routes on half the field mapped out, because he couldn't wrap his head around what 5 eligible receivers were doing at any one time. The plays would only have the Receiver routes on the left or right side of the field. Right then and there, I knew he was never going to be ready for prime-time.
It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum... and I'm all outta gum.

That Brad Garrett - I mean Mike Tice -  was great! Never saw the obvious, except I do not see them looking a like. I am waiting for The Brad Garrett faking old Mike Tice after a Vikings' Lost Press Conference skit (sp?)![:D]

Everyone else,

I like to play Draft/Recruiting Nick and I know and tell everyone I know that if I (or any one else) wanted to spend the time I (or any one else) could become as good draft/Recruiting nick as all the big names (Mel Kipper Jr. and etc). In predicting players futures, no one is better than 75%. The only things I have trouble with is not being a Miami Hurricanes homer and like everyone else pick those athletes.

I hate QBs that think run first and then pass (none of any the QBs who average per season the most completition percentage, wins, TDs and passing yards think pass first). The only thing I hate more than running QBs are those overhyped players (Chicago RB Cedric Bension-no desire to be better and yes RB Reggie Bush - unless it is an obvious passing down &/or drawl he cannot run inside, should have drafted another position, even if he develops inside game and etc.). Giving me two-reasons to hate Michael Vick. I used to be a sports radio host and producer of sporting events for Florida International University's Radio Golden Panthers Radio Station and you should have seen the debates and frustration I got into.

When I was a Co-Host the lead host used bring on friends that would say Michael Vick was already the best player they have seen and easily a Hall of Famer! Vick is nothing but a Scat Back playing QB, able to do what he can do because he plays on the best running team in the league, entertaining but not a positive affect on his franchise, fate has him either changing to a real NFL QB or have a short career-because of a career ending injury. Have you guys heard and seen Vick is running College FootBall plays? Just wait for that Career Ending Injury!

Tennessee's Young is going to face the same situation and he is slow compared to often injured Vick, even though I heard he wants to develop as a pocket QB. That is not even to mention he played at NFL Bust producing Program of Texas (just another QB Cedric Benson). It is nothing new, Randall Cunningham never learned more than 25% of The Philadelphia Eagles offense, his former Head Coach said it.
