FlashFyre Format Long Long Road Campaign

Post by vahauser »

I am preparing to start an Enhanced FV.1 campaign of Wild Bill's Long Long Road to Victory Campaign.

The FlashFyre format was intended for a WW2 Long Campaign. However, I believe that with a few modifications, the FlashFyre format can also work for a designer campaign such as Long Long Road as follows:

“AI Advantage – ON”

N/A for Long Long Road

“AI Level – 200”

No problem.

“Reduced Squads – ON”

For Long Long Road, this condition is reasonable and not a problem.

“Reduced Ammo – ON”

For Long Long Road, this condition is reasonable and not a problem.

“Weapon Breakdowns – ON”

No problem.

“Vehicle Breakdowns – ON”

No problem.

“Mines – ON”

I will not employ mines or barbed wire or dragon’s teeth in this campaign

“Command & Control – ON”

No problem.

“Use the Hard (x2) setting for all battles.”

N/A for Long Long Road.

“Set Spotting to 70% for Player 1, 100% for Player 2”

No problem.

“Use Historic Ratings as designed.”

Under protest on general principle, but I will with reluctance use them.

“Select one of the 6 major nations for your HQ, but then only buy allied equipment”

N/A for Long Long Road because Long Long Road is not a computer-generated campaign. Long Long Road was specially designed by Wild Bill to be played as an American Campaign. Specially designed campaigns are difficult enough as designed.

Other Issues not covered by FlashFyre’s initial conditions:
1. I will use True Troop ON/Rarity OFF
2. I will limit myself to only mortars in my core.
3. I will use Enhanced FV.1
4. I will only use build points between battles as follows:
a) fix/repair units
b) I can have a maximum of two Rarity-3 upgraded units in my core (not counting the units I started the campaign with)
c) I can have a maximum of four Rarity-2 upgraded units in my core (not counting the units I started the campaign with)
d) I can have a maximum of eight Rarity-1 upgraded units in my core (not counting the units I started the campaign with)

My core is based loosely on the 509th Parachute Battalion. The 509th was the unit that historically started the Long Long Road and so seems to me to be an historically valid way to construct my initial core.

My core consists of:
1 battalion HQ
4 platoons airborne infantry
4 squads airborne recon
4 squads airborne AT
4 sections 81mm mortars
4 sections halftrack transport
3 sections M-10 Wolverines
1 section ammo carriers
1 section jeeps
3 snipers
1 jeep FO

Total of 71 units of which 5 are rarity-3 (4 LMG teams I had no control over when I bought the recon squads, and 1 jeep FO), and 6 are rarity-1 (the M-10s). The remaining 60 units are rarity-0.

I plan to start this campaign within the next few days. If you have any pre-game comments, I'd like to see them before I begin the campaign.

Here are the preferences I'll be using as required by the FlashFyre format.

Also, I'll be starting this campaign later today.

Do you want to see Turn-by-Turn screenshots? Every Five Turns? Beginning and End only? Something else? Let me know.

Think u could go back in alot of these posts and answer a few questions first but what do I know,, I just find it odd that u start a halfdozen threads,,edit what ever u feel like in them without giving a point form response,,, STATE to us what your using for preferences,,,, !!! and then ask for any comments or other pre-game requests,,, u sound like u've made up your mind that u're above answering anything that conflicts with or isn't set with what the Glorious Vahauser figures.??? Yes I called u out,,!! and u've done everything possible to avoid giving a compareable, catigorized, concise, account of even the battles I've posted, which are with the exact same settings except rarity,,,
OH ya I forgot I'm kibitzing!!!!!!!!! your tryin to look good to everyone in this forum and have them recognize your skills and endevors but then totally lose any crediblity by jumping into or starting a new thread without reffering back to and answering simple questions,,, [POINT 1] Are u going to actually fight withdraws/delays with tryin to get the extra +3 victory points/unit for exiting or are you going to just hide and counterattack after the enemy spreads too thin within the turns of battle to push u off the VH's???
You havn't even explained why you feel like U still don't think that rarity should be OFF for u but FLASHES reference says "ON" and I tryd to point out in my camp. that the rarity OFF gives u equipment that, for the price will be much more powerful than compareablely priced enemy equipment when u combine the affects of experience #'s and the fact that the AI doesn't get to fix !!!! because IT NEVER HAS A STAND ALONE core.RARITY OFF doesn't assist the AI force as much as u think because the AI's force buys everything NEW,with "NO"reduced squads or AMMO restrictions??{except HQ} for its next battle and won't limit its self to a RARITY 3,2,or 1 basis of purchase, therefor NO expence of a "fix ALL" for its core points before its support purchases!! I tried to show in posting the enemy's and my cores for the three battles I've had so far, that it has the habbit, {at least when AI's playing the JAPS} of buying massive amounts of infantry, AT guns, and medium mortars,,, all of which out# my force by usually 5-1 or more and with jungle terrain giving way more breakdowns to vehicles rather than foot squads the AI has with every battle so far HAD THE POTENTIAL TO completely overwhelm me,, and yet my casualties, and location on the field,have managed to give me 2 draws and a DV.{and this is NOT any presaved effort on my part!}
Play with the settings how ever u want,,, just quit haggling over it and show US to the bitter finish!! FOR SOMEONE WHO CLAIMS TO BE "IN B-52's{NO RANK< NO unit/group identification #'s}, u sure don't show the determination, disipline, or leadership skills of compassion, and understanding that someone of credible military background should.[8|]

Reduced Squads on or off will not affect the AI in a premade Campaign.
LLRTV was not made to be played with C and C on as far as I know.
The designer has probably set the troops experiences manually.
If you are using FV.1 then you SHOULD download and use the edited version of LLRTV that has been edited to play with Enhanced, or units wil have wrong weapons and such.
for instance, all the German Infantry will be armed incorrectly with an 88mm Panzergrante, which is an RCL Rifle fired weapon.

Alby,

I have downloaded the enhanced Long Long Road Campaign.

C&C ON is what FlashFyre format requires. I realize that this will make the campaign more difficult for me.

Reduced Squads ON only hurts me, so playing with Reduced Squads ON is more difficult which is what FlashFyre format requires. Same for Reduced Ammo ON, only hurts me, so I will play with Reduced Ammo ON.

If you have other comments regarding how you want me to post my games here in this thread, then let me know.

Riun T,

I was in the U.S. Air Force from 1973 to 1979. From 1975 to 1979 I was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Ft. Worth Texas on nuclear alert with the 20th Bomb Squadron (Thunderbirds) of the 34th Bomb Group. And I think you are WAY OUT OF LINE to attack me personally regarding my service to my country. This is an SPWAW forum. Keep your comments focused on SPWAW and not on personal issues. My military service is a matter of public record and you can talk to the U.S. Veterans Administration regarding my military service.

FlashFyre format makes no mention of Rarity ON or OFF. Rarity ON is unrealistic. That is my opinion. Rarity OFF is more realistic. That is my opinion. FlashFyre format does NOT talk about Rarity. Show me where FlashFyre talks about rarity.

Look Va, you can't fault us here on the forum for wanting to at least try in some form to identify whom we think we're talking to,.When u invited yourself into commenting in MINE AND GUNNIES conversation in "Here's the thing about long campaigns" you shoulda stuck with that thread until ALL of the questions ,,, [even the ones where I first asked your RANK???]were answered,,,,, BUT NOOOOOOOOOO, you run threw the forums on about 6 differant rants and wonks {some about slanderous and liabl conduct???? some about user agreement,,,,, and 3 other posts that had nothing to do with pleasent discussion about "long campiagns!!! THEN,,,,,,,, instead of being reasonable and answering relivent questions,,,,, you EDIT out full pages of your posts and start this LLRTV campaign {in my oppinion just so u wouldn't have to play out the settings I said I would post my results of to compare with yours FOR THE WHOLE CAMPAIGN}with again another dozen pages on how YOUR going to play that one,,,, why can't you just play threw your original greman extreme challenge long campaign that u interupted me and GUNNY with in your very first post?????DO U UNDERSTAND,,,, by the way u jump around these forum pages like a 10 yearold,,, starting up HOW MANY OTHER POSTS TO CLOUD OR IGNORE OUR ORIGINAL QUESTIONS AND REQUEST AS I FIRST SAID,,,on a posting with screenshots of all the battles for us to see of your EXTREME CHALLENGE,,,,, THEN U AREN"T EVEN done with that!!! FINE,,,, don't play any of the threads you've started throu to show us,,,,but don't be supprized when we look at u and your forumhopping KIBITZING,and inableity to play throu and show us anthing complete with the "extreme challenge, or the FLASHFIRE SETTINGS CHALLENGE,or NOW THIS long long road CHALLENGE,,,???? actually stick to something you can play throu and show us and quit jumping into new things and I'll quit asking who this threadjumping GOOF is,,! we still don't know how old u are and your rank,,,??? and if you'd stop starting new threads and complete something I'd quit wonking and making u feel like I'm attacking U.P.S. the reason I'm curious of your credentials is because even if u were a B-52 pilot, your arm of the services doesn't require u to have to go to groundpounder tac school to learn strategy utilization,, in otherwords I'm tryin to figure out why a collage graduate flyboy services guy wouldn't have the same officers gloat and at least a unit avitar if he was in an admireable field. I was a lowly corpral, but have served in active combat and attended RRMC in victoria for battle school and officer training. and excuse me if I'm mistakenly calling out a button pushing clerk security guard{MP} flyboy wanna be,,, but your acting as vein as any officer I've ever talked to and just wanted to see how close to the call you actually where,,?? your still too vague,, and have not told US what u actually did for the air force??? typeist??? paperclip bender????squadron toilet swabber???

And heres one of the reasons I think RARITY could be an issue, I did a purchase test using the good old tiger 1 early/late,,, which if u look at the weapons screen for this tank between the beginning years of its production doesn't have the neblewarfer 92 or the advanced sightoptics available in 42 rangefinder and firecontrol #'s, but does have these better fixtures available in 44-45, also if u use Shermans the 76mm guns and sandbagging for armour doesn't happen till later but with rarity off I can buy later in the war units, more powerfully equiped sooner than physically possible??? or have I missed something????Do u think having the 1944 equipped TIGER 1 is fair for the beginning of the war????for either side????
You said yourself that your using M10 wolverines!! were that many units with those firecontrol #'s really produced to that availability for what your starting year was?????

Riun T,

Okay forget it. FlashFyre was right.

It's clear to me now that FlashFyre was right when he said that nobody cares about the way people play a single-player campaign. This has been a waste of time and effort. As far as I can tell, nothing positive has resulted from all these threads.

You go back to what you were doing before any of these threads got started. And I'll go back to what I was doing. I am no longer interested.

I'm really sorry that My kibitzing has pissed u off that much bud, and hope you'll still post,,,, I'm really not tryin to ambush or default u like u think,,, attacking the post isn't attacking U,and I've only asked all along for u to catchup on replys and backup your rebuttles to A FINISH... for each of our questions!!! hope your not going to put my posts on the ignore button like TBT ended up??!! [:(] could we not have keeped all of this in the "Riun T . . . vahauser long campaign" thread rather than chasing u threw all those other ones?

I'm going to keep posting with screenshots, MY progress in the Flashfyre effort I'm doing already, and would love to see your comparitive results alongside of mine, SO we can pick EACHOTHER apart ,,,, not for anything more than just seeing what eachother had to drag his force threw,,,,what the force was composed of and what u where able to upgrade and when??? what strategys and tactics you and I might have utilized somewhat differantly,, and to what end??? DV? MV? DRAW? for the same type of random situation,?? IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK???
