Possible pathing bug

Post by Grah31 »

I posted a message a few weeks ago about my AI ally hiding behind some mountains in ambush whilst I drew the enemy teams towards me (and him) and wondered if this was a programmed tactic. Well I’ve discovered that it may be a bug. My team, now richer and more skillful, had built up to Regular/Veteran level and piloted Medium, Heavy and Assault Titans. I set up a 4-team fight on a large map, against similar skill-level enemies, ~800tons per team. I was in the north east, my ally further south. We both advanced towards a large ridgeline that dissected the map north-south. I started to engage the enemy around the ridgeline but had lost sight of my ally due to a spur from the ridge splitting our side of the map somewhat. In all the confusion of battle it wasn’t until about 600 secs had gone by and my beleaguered troops were coming under heavy crossfire from both enemy teams that I noticed that I was in the fight alone. I switched the AI off on my allies and found them all (8 Titans) clustered in one hex up against an impassable cliff face. They were all sitting there not bothering to try and go round the hex even though there was a passable route ‘south-west’ of their position. It was some time before I moved them into the battle and by then my team were shattered. I lost one dead (rookie) and had to eject the other five. The AI enemy then destroyed my allies ‘in detail’. I gained $93,000 for the contest and lost about $1,500,000 worth of hardware. I don’t begrudge the loss or the death. Just the Chicken-Shit morale of my allies (or the bug )

No bug, a feature. Who said that YOU could choose the strategy for this battle. Your ally decided to hide so it would have been better you did the same. It was no pathing bug, it was done on purpose. This hiding is normally selected by both allied teams if under AI command, YOU had messed it up

Excellent! I love that feature. I've made an executive order to myself that all future teams, no matter their size, will contain at least one recon Titan to scout ahead, check the bad guys out, and retreat out of there sharpish. I know that’s what you *should* do but you get all this money and these heavy toys and it gets to your head. Apart from my ignoble/sneaky allies my main mistake with that battle was not scouting out the ridge with a recon unit. The 100 tonner I did use poked his nose into one hell of a hornet’s nest! About eight enemy titans locked onto him and, before he could turn and flee, knocked him down in mid-run. With that failed pilot check he was toast – although he successfully ejected and should be able to learn from the experience.

It's nice that the AI is able to do other things than charging on purpose.
There *might* still be some movement decisions which could be improved. Let me tell you about those CC titan, who went downhill backwards only to start climbing it up again in the next move. He was not under fire nor did he have a target in range, but maybe the AI tried to gain movement XPs .
