RE: ...again....
Update from the Allies, Summer 1942:
In the last week or so the KB has disappeared from the New Guinea battle zone, perhaps to recuperate and receive more Zero pilots, or as a reserve to try and meet the next Allied attack. The 5th Air Force in Port Moresby has started an airborne demolition derby over New Guinea, starting with Gili Gili & Lae. But if the KB comes back it could be trouble. It seems in Nik's Mod the best naval bomber to have are the torpedo-carrying Beauforts, and I don't have enough of them to stop the KB, wihtout committing my US CV's. And where those are I can't let Alexandre know
Meanwhile, swarms of British & Indian troops have filtered into Burma, restoring the Burma Road to resupply the Chinese while threatening Mandalay and hopefully, eventually, Rangoon. So far I haven't seen much of a response from Alexandre, but I'm guessing some reinforcements are on the way or already in place.
To continue our Japanese strategy discussion, i think Alexandre is right- the Japanese cannot overextend. But i think they can attack and destroy before then withdrawing again. For example, the KB can lead an amphibious attack on almost any island or land area like Port Moresby early on. Could the Japanese hold PM? Probably not. But taking it, leaving some bombers (until they are evacuated to Rabaul at the last minute) might delay the US advance by 3-6 months. A sort of Pacific mobile defence, if you will. At least that's my opinion. Some say you could do the same mobile defence and attack where the Allies have advanced, say historically counterattacking the USMC landings on Tarawa in 1943. All of this is easier said than done, and one mistep by the KB could lead to a "Midway" style turning point against the IJN. However, I'm an advocate of aggressive behaviour on both sides for this scenario.

RE: ...again....
-Lae spared for two days in a row....hmmmmm.....and Lee is correct on taking PM. Big trouble is that he was faster than me and sacrificed a lot of ships and planes to reinforce the base. It was a smart movement, now, with hundreds of fighters and bombers, PM is a "no go" area for IJN (isn´t it?). August is coming and also the uber Tojo. The Navy is considering a CV based version of the Tojo, btw....[:D]
The Tokyo Express
-Due to massive enemy air superiority over New Guinea, it´s dangerous to supply our bases there. So we started fast transport runs, using DD´s, the so called Tokyo Express. One of these fast convoys was heavily attacked by enemy planes, which damaged one DD and forced the convoy to retreat. The enemy however, lost 7 bombers in the operation, including 4 of their precious B-17´s. The next convoys will have fighter cover.

RE: The Tokyo Express
ALLIED PLAYER UPDATE: Chinese forces, spurred on by their destiny to become the world's 3rd largest consumer of oil after the USA and Japan by 2006, have conquered most of Burma and are streaming en masse towards resource-heavy Rangoon, Cambodia & Vietnam. Japanese oil drilling experts in Lashio flee to Mandalay, unaware of their strategically precarious position between masses of future consumer Chinese infantry and British imperialists from India. Meanwhile US marines plan their future objectives in the DEI, knowing they will have to protect Chevron/Unocal's oil deposits there after the US congress dismissed a chinese attempt to buy Unocal.

RE: Offensive in Central Pacific
-Some air action. A Japanese sweep on Changcha suffered a embarrassing defeat to obsolete enemy fighters, including a Zero shot down by an I-15. Over Rangoon, the opposite happened and an attack against Japanese ships resulted in scores of P-40´s and Hurricanes lost, against only 6 Oscars shot down. In the Central Pacific Front, the first Nell attacks against the enemy invasion fleet, still unloading troops and supplies, had some success, inflictiong heavy damage to an Australian light cruiser and damaging less seriously three transports. Nine Nells were lost in the attacks. The IJN command cannot explain the reason why the enemy fleet has no air cover.

RE: Offensive in Central Pacific
ALLIED PLAYER RESPONSE:
NEW YORK TIMES, August 9th, 1942
US troops, emboldened by their recent victory in New Guinea over the Japanese air force, have taken Makin Island after several seconds of vicious bombardment. The Japanese troops held out until their rice got cold, before bravely surrendering to a platoon of Navy Nurses sunbathing on the beach. Several US corporals have complained about enemy air activity, but as they see a horizon spotted with grey hulls and ever increasing deposits of C-rations and nurses, their grumbling dies down...

RE: Offensive in Central Pacific
-No IJN activity over Makin as bad weather prevented our Nells from attacking the enemy ships. Another air raid on Rangoon ended in massive losses for the enemy. The last Japanese troops died in a Banzai charge (we strongly deny that history about Navy nurses...all allied propaganda....[:D])

RE: Offensive in Central Pacific
US Forces launch surprise attack on Makin Island, north of Tarawa. Japan responds by stirring the mighty KB, which rushes out of Truk past a gauntlet of minefields real and imagined before finding itself in typhoon weather. American transports, their platoons of navy nurses already disembarked to "disarm and dismay" Japanese resistance on Makin, are fleeing.
