Interesting, except it's not a linear time scale. so the Crusaders get as much on-map time as the Ottomans...

It would be quite interesting to see someone do a similar project on a one year scale for the entire world. Enter a year for a starting point (and probably an area) and then be able to advance year by year, or automatically, to watch the rise and decline of various empires, tribes, and, eventually, countries. (Has this been done anywhere already?)

This animation was good, but you blink and the Roman Empire is in existance... blink again... and it's gone... replaced by the Byzantine Empire (at it's heighth)... and then the Crusader States for another eyeblink and so forth.

Middle East? It seems to be modelling who controlled Israel/Palestine/Syria.

The Mamelukes, Safavids, Seljuks, Buyids, Black Sheep Turkmens, White Sheep Turkmens, Timurids etc are all not included...
