AAR France attacking Austria

Post by MarshallEllis »

Hello all:

Just wanted to post a few pics from a solo game where all was going well then the world fell apart...

I am France vs all Hard AI players. I have defeated Austria once already BUT she has DOW'd me in hopes of regaining her ceded provinces (Bohemia). After the DOW Austria moves to Prague to capture it!

My response is to bring "The man" with all available forces! This is the situation after my land moves and before combat!

Combat begin:

BTW: Austria did have to wait 18 months in order to DOW me and she did ... by the rules!
Apologize for the fuzzy pics but I had to trim them up a bit to post them!

Here is the begining of the combat phase. I can see my forces but the Austrian makup is still a mystery (Thank you Richard). No I select my chit!

Results of Round 1:

I selected Escalated Assault in hopes of DESTROYING the max amount possible with my numbers! Austria selects counter attack!

I have a +1 mod for Napoloen vs John.
Also have +1 for cav superiorority BUT +1 mod is the max!
Die rolls are Devastating to the Austrians!

Round 2 results:

Round 2 simply finished her off terribly!
Austria breaks!
My pursuit (Apologize for lack of pursuit screen) was ineffective.
I have however achieved a major victory for France!

Then the bad news!

Was it worth it?
Yes, obviously I am using the leader casualties option!

Anyway:

Just thought I would post a few shots of my game since the killed leader result is so rare (Must roll a 2d6 = 12 THEN 1d6 = 6) in order for him to be killed! I found my self actually ANGRY at MY game!?!?!?

Again, I apologize for the fuzzy pics but had to trim them to upload to our forums!

Thank you

WOW!  That was awesome!!!! [&o]

Thanks for the additional screen shots.  I think the graphics make combat very easy to digest at a glance, but I'd be curious to know:  Are you informed of what the AI eliminates as casualties between combat rounds?

Well I didn’t mean for you to hide the commander’s ratings.

Joisey:

There is summary text at the bottom saying what casualties were taken in the previous round. In post number three you will see that the AI chose 23 militia which he was allowed to do since the Franch only took 1.90 in mirale points off in the first round. 2.00 or above would have forced Austria to take other than Militia (if available).

Wow, then it is way more likely to get a leader killed in the computergame than in the boardgame. In the boardgame it is 2d6=12 and then 1d6=6 in order to kill a leader that is once every 216th battle. With your calculation of 2d12=12 + 1d6=6 it is once every 79th battle your leader is killed. That might explain why it happened to you.

I suppose that 2d12 = 12 is an error in the first post.

Hey guys:

I have corrected the 2d12 issue. Thanks for the heads-up!
It is 2d6 = 12 then 1d6 = 6.
My bad!

BTW: This was the first leader I've seen killed (Correctly).

Thank you

The weird lettering looks like games from the 80's.

These are shrunken JPGs
It's not as chunky in real life more like the 1780s :-)

Very nice...and Nappy buys the farm to boot.  I would gladly sacrifice my army to see that.  Davout is good, but limited in corps he can handle.

Question; does the death of such a great leader effect the AI when declaring future wars?  France will be much easier to beat without the mighty 5/5/6 of Nappy and having to defend against outflank all the time.

Besides, the die leader are choosen over the whole leaders presents in the battle. It could be Massena, Murat or Napoleon. 1d3 more of bad luck for nappy, mes amis.

I'm going to write a letter to Santa (in Spain the three Wise men). I NEED this game
