looking for feedback on starshatter: the gathering

Post by peppergomez »

i never bought the original starshatter, so it doesn't bother me if ss:gs offers no new storyline or campaign. just wondering what the state the game is in, if there are any serious bugs, missing features, etc., since i don't do the whole 'paying beta tester' thing.

thanks

I don't know if anyone is able to give you the feed back you'd want. I'd suggest trying the old 3.9.4 demo and checking if there will be a demo for the current version of the game.

I bought and enjoy Gathering Storm. The new art alone made it worth the purchase.

the original starshatter was a good game, though it had a serious flaw that made me stop playing. the flaw showed itself when i had advanced a long way into the game, to the point where i had many ships under my command and I was controlling a carrier ship. i would launch a bunch of fighters on missions, and then when they returned about half of them would crash upon landing. major buzz kill.so i stopped playing.

i recently bought the new starshatter, and have encountered some audio problems early in the game. nothing major, and i think they are being looked into. graphically the game is much better, though it wasn't too bad the first go around. in any event, when this game works there is really nothing else like it.

I swear though, if I play this game and get to be a commodore again in charge of a carrier group, and half my fighters crash upon landing, i will be very, very [:@]

Screw carriers! Cruisers are the ones who get job done fast.

What can you tell me about campaigns of Gathering Storm?
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

That was fixed quite a while ago, as I recall.

Exact same as the original. As far as the fix to the carrier crashing bug, my fingers are crossed. Someone on this forum only last week gave me contrary information.

Peppergomez, I purchased only today, first time with it, so only novice feedback but you did ask:

Flown the training missions so far -- I've had no glitches in any way, really nice graphics, a really good imersive experience so far.

Audio double-ups mentioned above only happen to me if I complete 2 or 3 steps in the training mission at once/close succession -- the audio instructions/responses stack on top of each other. But if I went at the pace intended for the tutorials it was fine for me.

I'm fine in 1280x1024 AA AF. I did have to rework a few controls planetside as the virtual/mouse "joystick" wasn't working with default settings for me, but easily resolved also.

So far all looks good (and very prettty) I'll post again if I experience any issues pepper-g in the main campaign, but this far no issues at least.

good luck to you. different user have different experiences. to me, it needs patching. in any case, it will only set you back $40, versus the $60+ for me. i'll be interested to hear how it works for you.

IME you could still induce it although it was less frequent.

equate it to this:

this edition - starshatter 2007

Not a patch, but an improved version. Just not improved enough IMHO; I feel just a tad ripped off as an existing owner, the discount should have been at least half. Some new campaigns wouldn't have hurt so at least it felt a bit more like an 'expansion'.

I agree with this assessment, 35% was not enough of a discount. I sort of feel like I paid $20 to be a beta tester.

The gathering storm is better than the original, no doubt about it. Things that were broken or non-functioning in the original are for the most part working in TGS.

So, if you are new to the game, then I would get it. If you are a previous owner, well, I'm not so sure.

I bought it thinking the new mod tools would be included with the new version. While fighter combat is better and my mod looks great in it. I was also disappointed.

My custom planets we tweaking and my music I made was not playing. All of this was good in 4.5

Skins and terrain editing along with the new datter and magic would be a nice consolation.

I'm not new to game and I'm not gonna buy it. I wait for Starshatter 6.0 and hope it has some new campaigns.

Reason I have bought expansions for Total Annihilation and Doom 3 games is becouse they offer new missions to play. That was worth my money. Becouse Starshatter 5.0 (also known as Gathering Storm) don't offer new missions for player, I'm not gonna buy it.

Starfleet Command 2: Empires at War and Starfleet Command 2: Orion Pirates are other almost as bad examples. Orion Pirates has new single player campaigns, but they don't offer much new compared to prequel. More popular multiplayer is only reason I've bought SFC2:OP in addition of SFC2:EAW. Blasting enemy shipyards with both human and AI teammates was just... BLAST! [:D]
Unfortunately I don't see this coming with Starshatter: Gathering Storm [:@]
