Matrix Games sends along an update for their turn based WWII strategy game.
Matrix Games and developer 2by3 Games have announced the release of a new update for War in the Pacific. This latest update, bringing the venerable strategy title to version 1.804, fixes a number of outstanding bug issues. For instance, the includes a correction of the LCU leader handling that was causing land experience to be increased to invalid levels as well as the crashes that were being caused by invalid pointer issues as well as fixing several other minor issues so that the players can concentrate on the game.
And now, a bit about War in the Pacific:
War in the Pacific: The Struggle Against Japan 1941-1945 is a completely new strategy game, based on the award winning Uncommon Valor game engine. The scale is 60 miles per hex and losses are individual vehicles, aircraft, guns and squads. Since half the planet Earth is covered by the titanic Pacific struggle, the game is massive in scope, covering thousands of ships tens of thousands of aircraft. There are 15 campaigns included with the game, which can be played against the computer opponent, hot seat, by secure email. War in the Pacific now gives you the chance to fight the entire war your way on every level.
Get the patch and more information on the game from MatrixGames.com.

Cut and pasted from the What's New file. 1.804 is a quick fix for some of the catastrophic failures reported on 1.802:
***
Change History:
Note that v1.8.0.4 incremental production release includes the following changes:
Item 1 - Correct LCU leader handling upon LCU divide. Was causing land_experience to be increased to
invalid levels. Fixed.
Item 2 – Correct crash caused by invalid pointer upon player bringing up base display. Added pointer
validation check.
Item 3 – Correct crash caused by invalid pointer upon player mouse-ing over enemy port. Added pointer
validation check.

So was there a 1.803 that I missed, or did we go right from 1.802 to 1.804?
Edit: never mind, found the other thread on this. I guess I only need to install 1.804 to upgrade from 1.802.

War in the Pacific: The Struggle Against Japan 1941-1945 is a completely new strategy game, based on the award winning Uncommon Valor game engine.
I do grow somewhat tired of this sort of false marketing hype. It's not a completely new strategy game, though amyone familiar with this forum knows that. I would hesitate to even call it new by now. It's only new in the sense that it's the newest PTO strategy game out (Pacific Storm being something of a noteable exception).

Yeah, don't you just love advertising?
My pet peeve is the TV commercials which say "All new CSI tonight". In fact it is the same actors, same...
When it is my turn to be King of the World I'm gonna have those ad guys castrated.[:@]

In regards to the WiTP description as a new game, it looks like some lazy staffer "cut and pasted" the game description from some earlier article.

Yep. And they continue to do it. It has been more than two years that they have been using the same stuff.

Yes, the phrase from day one (actually that's a little bit of a guess on my part, but since it fits a day one announcement, as surely that's where it came from - I do know I've been seeing it for a very long time). It seems every patch or any announcement whatsoever has that paragraph in it. I read the pertinent details to the message and then I see "the paragraph to ignore". The really dumb thing is that probably all you have to do to that paragraph is replace the words "completely new" with "recent", or "somewhat recent", and in later years "seasoned" and it works. It doesn't serve any purpose as-is, because anyone new to the game would think they're idiots for calling it a completely new game, whereas some of us WITP vets get disgusted or ignore it.

I think when they say "All new CSI tonight" it's a typo. They mean "Al new CSI tonight". IOW, they're saying Algore had not seen that episode, so it is new to him. Now I guess the next thing you're going to tell me is that it's spoken and not written. Fair enough, but they apparently mis-spoke in that case. The lesson to the story is that any time you see the word 'all' used for a television promotion, and perhaps any promotion, then you know it's because they're referring to the former presidential candidate.

Poor example Charles-22, since AlGore is aware of anything tied to the media. After all, did he not invent the internet??[:D]

He rules! Such an important man doesn't have time for CSI nonsense, so naturally it follows that all (al) CSI episodes are new to him. That's precisely why they can repeat the same episode 50 million billion times and still claim all (al) new CSI.
