RE: AAR II
One of the thing that bugs me in COG is the length of the field to name units how big is it in FOF larger I hope ?

Ahhh
I think it depends on what screen or report you read
on somethings it looks like it is cut down, but then on the screens and reports it comes out right
so like the pic above, a number of my units have names that do not really show, but in the reports and on the map they do
LOL, I hope that comes across better then it reads to me

RE: AAR II
been a time of Rest for both sides, rearming and building of forces, with a lot of little side actions going on
England kind of likes me, but France and Europe like me lots
the union moves down and takes a peice of Virg, and I move Lee out to try and snach a Arty battery moving to another army
the Union decides to make a go for Wheeling again
I got some toys set up for him now

RE: AAR II
I dont like this set up, it is strong and could be great, but only if the Enemy comes right at me, I expect him to loop around and take the VH to the Northwest and then march down the road at me, so I drop some troops to slow him down if he does

RE: AAR II
so, what does the Union do, they come at me from the side of the front
and to the south, I do not give them much chance to close in, I got Hill on the Hill with some Withworths, and 2 Bdes are in hiding armed with Spencers
a sharp short fight (lasted two days)
I really need some upgrades
my Divs are all earning Flags and names now

RE: AAR II
every once in a while, you get the perfect battle field
Rivers and swamps with a nice hill
got my cav and Arty blocking the road, the other troops are dug in behind a river, no charges today
on the hill, in the center is a Bde with Withworths, and on his flanks two Bdes armed with Spencers
and with a prefect terrain and good firepower, it is a slaughter
Robert E comes though again
the Union takes another hit to there Nat Will, and I am making lots of friends overseas
if the Union does not act fast, things are going to go down hill in a hurry
be glad when winter set in, my boys need some rest

RE: AAR II
just to the side at the top, you see part of my 4 Bdes of Cav
and with all of those Union troops turning there flanks and rear to them, is a RED FLAG waving in the breeze

You always seem to be able to take the tactical defensive on good ground if you are given time which is great does the AI ever just set up and wait for you to come to it in COG it always seems to attack is it the same in FOF if yes thats going to be dissapointing as sitting on a hill with patience and set up arty is going to benefit the union a lot. i.e. is a Gettysburg even possible in the tactical battle or will the AI always try to force the issue

I'm excited - Zachariah Deas!!! I used to renact with the 19th Alabama Infantry - part of Deas Brigade. You never hear mention of him anywhere except orders of battle it seems.

Isnt that one of those too good to attack postions ?
Unless you had to attack I would sit back or try to flank on the left did the AI send the Union straight at your dug in centre without adequate Arty support ?

RE: AAR II
Quick graphics note:
One of the things that is been improved upon w/ the Forge engine is the implementation of seasonal terrain graphics. If you look at Sarge's screenshots you can see how the terrain and trees, etc. are gradually changing from summer to fall. The trees turn color and lose their leaves. Eventually it will be winter. It all happens fairly smoothly.

No, if the AI is on the Defence, it tends to stay in place, or move within its lines, it will try and shift forces to where they are needed
some times, the AI will make a rush, but as in WWII, it is more when it knows it don't stand a chance
I think the AI is much better then COG, but all the battles I have with it, I can still pretty much out think, out plan it
plus some of the setting, if you think you have too much time or not enough time, you can set all battles to be at close range or at long range, mine is sit on normal right now

it did try to flank to the other side, but I had enough troops that it really didn't find the end of my line, the map edge is screwing up any movement to the other side
plus I not sure if you can see it from the mini map, but the rear area is a major swamp
so all in all, it was pretty much channelled to come at me
to be honest, I think that Hill defence screwed up how the AI seen the battle, if my line had been totally on the riverline, I think it could of fought a better battle
it was trying to flank the hill, but the rest of my line was in place to counter that
one hassle with me doing a AAR to show off the game, I am not the type to set up for a battle wrong, I got too much of a combat background and been a player too long, to do so

RE: AAR II
Those divison falgs a beautifull! Very nice job. Also like that seasonal graphics change.
Good job

RE: AAR II
well it is now into May of 63
the winter was pretty quiet with both sides healing there wounds and training (the Union got lots and lots of upgrades, but I got some good ones also)
the Union has been building a line of forts, I waiting too long, those are going to be murder to break, so guess I better go in and bleed them down some before hand
I was hoping to get France to join the war, have had them so close so many times, but now they are starting to drop away, so I think I better get some battles in and make them love me again
Robert E and boys are heading to Cinic, and a major party is planned on the other side of Kentucky
