Don't Want Flags on Map

Post by linrom »

I am finally getting ready to play a game using Andrew's modified standard map. However, I would like to get rid of all those country flags. Is there a way I can do it?

Erm, those are meant to show which side owns which base. Why would you want to get rid of them (and you can't)?

You may be able to do it by altering the picture file, but I doubt that you can make it transparent.

The problem is, if you made a standard green square, to blend with the jungle, you'd get little green squares in the middle of the oceans.

Best you could do, is figure out a way to alway show "dot hexes" instead of base flags. But I've to think that one thru...

It would add to fog of war and base flags make maps look cluttered.

It would add to fog of war

I think it'll add to your frustration, to not know at a glance whether you own the base or not (but to each his own). I'm not sure it would really contribute to fog of war tho (you would certainly know if friendlies occupied Lunga or not).

There -is- a mod out there, that standarizes all the infantry icons on the map. Normally, brighter means more guys. The infanty icons in the mod, are all the same, so you don't really get an indicator of how many troops are present, which -does- contribute to fog of war.

Yeah, you'd be told of an enemy landing or advancing into a base anyway, so what would be the point?[&:]

You can and it's quite easy: open all 10 mapiconsXXX.bmp-files (with XXX being the abbreviations of all nations involved in WitP, e.g. "US", "AUS", "J", ...) in your art folder and replace the flags with the pink background (it's the transparency color of the file).

I have no idea why you would want to do this, though.

Ok, the game becomes unplayable because in order for you to bring up the base screen you need to click the EXACT center of base location.[:@]

Normally, brighter means more guys.

Actually, i am pretty sure the DARKER the icon is, the more troops it has. When it has a lot of troops it can be difficult to notice the icon. i would think the OPPOSITE would make more sense, however...

Of course, every computer game/application requires you click on an appropriate symbol to call appropriate information. If you click in a random location how could the computer know what information you require? If you were to just to click on a hex how would the game know whther you wanted the base info, the lcu info, the TF info or the a/c info screen?

You can call the base list using the B key and select the base you want. Alternatively, all base symbols occur directly in the centre of the hex so you should be able to guess the location, assuming you know which hex the base is in.

"Unplayable" is rather harsh...
