VSWG (if you are Soviet player): nobody said that you cannot play some diplomacy with Japan [:D] You can always demand Kurilles back or else... :] I would also start doing some neutrality patrols. Also organizing convoys for supplies to US. If Japan dare to interact... well... their fault. (keep your 40 submarines in position). With Soviets active Japan is more less screwed.

I've played the EOS variant a bit versus the AI. Are you guys determined to maintain surprise - meaning none of you have looked at the Japanese side of EOS - or would you be interested in comments about what forces you might face in EOS?

I intent to have a close look at the Japanese OoB in Mandchuria. I'm 99 % sure Nemo knows every detail of the Allied OoB, and cid... well, he's the creator of the mod.

USN Pacific Command plans in case of war with Japan
Eastern Pacific Command. (Pacific Fleet)
1. Execute War Plan Orange. [;)]
2. Move 2nd USMC Division to Oahu (to help it`s rebuild). Molokai, Lahaina and Hilo should have as garrison a USA Regiment or Division, with support units.
3. Midway Island is important to hold but not essential
4. As reinforcements arrive the deployment of USA units in the chain Johnston I, Canton I, Palmyra, Pago Pago, and Suva.
5. Early Reinforcements of New Caledonia / Solomon Islands are defered to ANZAC Command. We suggest using NZA Units as foward defense.
6. Conduct a heavy ASW campaign in the area between the CONUSA and the Hawaian Islands. Once those areas are secured for merchant traffic, the ASW forces will be deployed father south or assigned to the Pacific Fleet offensive operations
Sorry to tell you this but I think USAFFE is ARMY including Asiatic fleet.ORIGINAL:Western Pacific (USAFFE)
1. Situation in the Philipphine island deemed as utenable. All surface forces will redeploy towards ABDA command.
PACFLEET Exercise XVI suggest that using four ship Task forces with two capital ships and two screens are the most suitable to interdict the Phase I of the Japanese advance.
TFs of four ships are hard to detect by overstreched enemy naval search planes, and succesful raids will force the enemy to cover all their invasion forces, thus:
A) Dilluting enemies strengh B) Forcing a slower tempo to have all forces escorted C) Negating the enemy airforce effects
2. All Merchant Ships will be ordered to move towards Soerabaja and placed under ABDA/ANZAC/British instructions.
3. Asiatic Fleet Sub Arm will try to interdict the traffic with their S-Class subs. Fleet Subs will be used for minelaying operations, commando inflitrations and cadre evacuations. At request of the Adm. Blitzk a war game demonstrated that Asiatic Fleet subs could move a complete BDE (except heavy equipment) with two loads under enemy heavy air pressure
4. Asiatic Fleet surface units not used as point 1), will be put under local command of the ABDA or British Command as escorts.
I am going to try and play somewhat like Mac did [:D]

US Army here.
I was just thinking that all that land based Air is MINE! man what a good thing to dream about. Anyway USN and I need to have a talk about how we want to accomplish the defense of the mainland and the PI. I agree that the PI is a lost cause but I want to punish him badly before rolling over dead. I drive truck for a living and know the value of logistical assests.
I want to bleed Japan dry of those assets. If he can't move troops he can't invade areas. Wont help early war but by the time we are ready to take the offensive it will be nice not to worry about counterattacks.
Main focus for me is trying to find a good area to defend, defend and reinforce it. Once we're ready, take the war to Japan.
I live in the Seattle area and drive truck during weird hours. I work monday, tuesday early morning wed-thur off then work Friday morn. I cram 40 hours into 3 days. With the holidays coming up I'm going to be working alittle harder as I deliver groceries. And for some reason people eat alot during the holidays [:D][X(][:D].

I think that first fleet must be gathered in one place and ready to counterattack. How bout Pearl Harbour? It's a quite safe place for our BBs.
VSWG: At day 2 you should send info to Sid and Nemo declaring neutrality and demanding safe passage to US for your merchants (as it was historically).

"Fairy Dust" intercepts indicate serious danger of sabotage on airfield installations in PH and Philippines. Recommend implementation of appropriate security measures.

Well ANZAC here i request supply and fuel to be delivered to Oz. and NZ as well as few ships to carry it further. The plan is to transfer NZ Brigade to Numaea to strenghten the forces there as well a rapid deployment to PM[:D] AS for Reinforcements i require some Fighters and few Bombers as the Aussie Air force is Crappy + some small surface ships CA top's and few Subs and a tender. The Plan is to stick to Numaea and PM i will leave Lugganville and Etafe to US guys to worry about the same for Fidzi[:D]
BTW Send me some Base Forces as i really lack those[;)]

Okay. I've not explored the Japanese OOB (like I would in a PBEM if we both agreed to), but from playing (against the AI) - the biggest thing is the IJN carriers. They have a bunch more. Usually you think in terms of KB and mini-KB, right? And mini-KB at first is one or two small carriers, right? In EOS there are three CV groups right from day one. KB and two smaller ones. It's like small, medium, and large. KB is the big six. The other two appear to be CVL's (medium) and CVE's (small). Due to FOW I'm uncertain how many are in each, but I think minimum 2 or 3, maybe more.
Human players, of course, could choose to make several small CV TF's even while Big KB is engaged elsewhere. Watch out for the CV's!

I was just skimming through old threads looking for more "Must read" materiel, and look what I found:
I've never seen cid posting an actual in-game strategy before! This thread is almost a year old... maybe he's going to use this strategy against us? BlitzK, did he do something similar in your game?
Edit: Nevermind, BlitzK, I remembered that you had already answered that.

Of all the Japanese Fanboy types, have any ever tried to cutoff Oz from the US by going to Nouema, Suva & Canton Is areas instead of PH for the eastern thrust while keeping the DEI thrust for the oil/resources? Can the IJ forces maintain that offensive?
For decades I have perfected a Japanese offensive. Using much more complex simulations than this one, I have concluded that Japan should not wait to move into the South Pacific. There is almost no Allied defense in the area. There are almost no airfields - the seaplane force MATTERS - and if you hold a place WITHOUT building airfields it will take the Allies a while to build them even if they take them. Australia had one special forces company divided into 5 platoons spread from New Guinea to Fiji. It had an awful "brigade" at Rabaul - a single battalion of second line troops - a battery of two six inch coast guns - a militia unit - and some other stuff (an RAAF detachment for example). There was even less at Port Moresby. And those are the STRONG points! I send a force with a light carrier or two and a seaplane carrier or two, a division of heavy cruisers, and a number of small land units (infantry, engineers, AAA, coast defenses, and small base forces in WITP terms). Going South in December 1941 is a big problem for the Allies. The real objective is Noumea - New Caledonia in the real world has resources. Create a string of bases from Truk to New Caledonia. Everything else you take in a denial strategy - but do not build it up. Support these light forces with mobile units - and do not cry when you lose islands - if you do. Export everything you can from New Caledonia (and an island that has massive amounts of bird shit - it is a resource too) while you can. All the time the Allies spend trying to take back the area they are fighting for something you can afford to lose - and losing time doing it. If you ALSO take Hawaii at the same time (I do), things can get bad for them. I usually follow up with a raid (similar to the Indian Ocean Raid) - circumnavigating Australia. The object of the raid is to disrupt, kill any planes or ships that you can find, and loot all the heavy equipment and vehicles you can lift (I said it was a more complex game). The only thing you keep is Darwin - which I consider a de facto island - let them fight to take it back. Better than fighting over something you need!

RE: The Magnificent Seven vs. Nemo/Cid - Allied AAR
Southern Pacific is a very reasonable place for early Japanese offensive. The return on investment is really high there. As in post above, defenses are really weak, so they don't even need significant forces to grab it.

Does anybody know what is Nemo talking about? I've read supply section in manual and can't find anything related. It will try to BUT if you read the supply section of the manual carefully you may happen upon a way to avoid this. I had many problems with supplies in China and after some time I hit upon an idea. I tested it and I found a way to "isolate" a base from friendly resupply. It isn't perfect and it cannot always be done but you can definitely limit what you are afraid of.

It isn't perfect and it cannot always be done but you can definitely limit what you are afraid of.
This is the relevant paragraph from the manual:
My guess is that Nemo found a way to artificially inflate the amount of supplies a base needs. Flying some heavy air ops come to mind, as they increase the amount of supplies required by the base considerably. If you do this in all bases that do not contain a supply sink, no supplies will move around.14.1 SUPPLY OPERATIONS
Twice a day, during the Supply Needs Calculation and Overland Supply Movement Phases, the
computer calculates the supply needs of all the units and bases in the game. It then looks for
units and bases that need supplies, and which are near bases ((or ground units in the same hex)
that have an abundance of supplies. Supplies are then automatically transported overland to the
needy units and bases if there is a clear supply path on the ground. Many supply operations occur
during the daily Supply Operations Phase.
