Decisive Battles

Battlefront features the power of battalion-level combat in some of this period's most bloody and intense conflicts: Saipan, Market Garden, Novorossisk, and Gazala. Players will have realistic control over their soldiers, with a tactical scale just large enough to make a telling difference in the strategic picture.

Decisive Battles

Post by BobCC »

I'm a big fan of the Decisive battle games like Normandy & Italy. Could someone tell me if battlefront is like those games, and what major battles can you play?[8D]

Battlefront is similar to BII and BIN, but at the Battalion/Company level. Battles included are Gazala, Arnhem, Novorisisk, and Saipan. Should be released by Christmas.

Battlefront can be seen as a further development of the Decisive Battles system, with some major innovations in design. It also deals with battles at a smaller scale than the DB system, with units typically representing battalions or companies. This scale means that there's an almost unlimited number of battles that can be recreated (and we supply an Editor, just as in the Decisive Battles system).

As Gregor noted there's much that's similar. The interface and many of the game's mechanics carry on the best features of DB. The game play is very different. I'll show how different shortly.

As far as battles... well the sky's the limit. Just about any Korean War/Mid-East 56 battle and earlier is possible. Game engine best supports companies and battalions (I suspect a game with platoons and companies would also work very well). I see any size battle that was available other games featuring companies & battalions (V4V/W@W scale battles comes to mind immediately) being immediately possible.
