Possible Reconstitution Bug

Post by Raindem »

OK, so I'm working on Campaign for South Vietnam and the NVA 312th Division gets eliminated in fighting near Pleiku. Over the next few turns it starts to reconsitute and is almost back in action except for the 141st NVA which the formation report says is "Moving". Problem is, this unit has not yet reconstituted and is nowhere on the map. What's worse is that it is not even in the reinforcement que as being scheduled to enter in a few turns. And yes, I've checked to make sure the 141st is set to reconstitute. In the past the formation report is supposed to say "Eliminated" until the unit is in the replacement que, at which point it'll give the Turn # of entry, like it does for the 209th.

Anyone have an idea? Is the 141st condemed to forever roam the TOAW underworld?

Curt

Curt,

Can you zip together the scenario file and a save file and attach it to a reply, please?

Thanks. We'll take a look at them and see what we can figure out.

Any info on this yet?

Continuing in the test, I later disbanded the 312th again just to see what would happen and all units except the 141st reconstituted.

Curt,

Why do you have so many 1 unit formations that are in formations that are named identically? You didn't use the import/export OOB on this, did you? It isn't working correctly.

I was wondering if somehow you managed to override, or workaround, the 400 formation limit, but I just did a recount of them and it looks like about 300 formations are in the North's OOB. So much for that theory...[&:]

Ralph's just now getting his TOAW feet back, so I'll point him toward this thread and see if he can figure out why. Just from what I've seen, everything looks like it should work, so unless it's some type of file corruption, I can't imagine why you've got the problem you do.

Curt,
Darned if I can see how that happened. Normally when you are killed, the to location is set up as where you died. It looks like it may have been et to 999 (The location for off the map) Do you remember what location was set up for the replacement queue?

Thanks,
Ralph

No, I didn't import the OOB. It is carried over from the last version of CSV from TOAW/CW. The one-unit formations are to enhance PO control of Viet Cong units.

Hi Ralph. Glad you're back. All units of the formation were KIA'd on the same turn within a couple hexes of each other. The reconstitution hex for 141st is 77,89 (same as the rest of the formation).

When the formation was eliminated it was in a weakened state and Allied units were rolling over it fairly easily, causing some units to retreat before combat and others to evaporate. High Allied interdiction levels cause horrific disengagement penalties in this scenario. I'm thinking that possibly the unit was supposed to be retreating but got KIA'd due to an interdiction hit and the program set a wrong flag or something. Just a guess.
