Field Goal Short Bug????

Post by marcntx »

This has happened twice already. A long field goal, it's short and looks like it lands on the padding of the field goal post. The play is dead and I get the ball at the point of the missed field goal? Just checking if that's right.

Under NFL rules, the defending team should get the ball at the point of the kick (i.e. around 7 yards back from the LOS at the kick).
Think its different for Canadian & Arena (but not sure what the rules are - we only get the NFL in the UK:o)

The ball is placed at the point of the kick (not the LOS).

In Canadian rules the ball is live so it's placed at whatever point the kick returner returns the ball to. If a returner doesn't return the kick, that team gives up a single point.

The AFL has nets and things that I can't use so I just copy the live field goal rule of the Canadian game.

I was just trying to clarify the ruling in my last post.
Having now played a few quick start games (US rules), the game definitely spots the ball correctly after a missed field goal attempt.

I guess I should have said I was playing Canadian rules.  There was no return and no point.  Possession changed and the ball was spotted at the point of the missed kick.

Not really a bug, but in the Canadian game, when the field goal is missed and the opposing team runs back the missed field goal for a touchdown, there is no statistical category for that.  Team stats don't include return yards and defensive stats don't show kick (or missed field goal, whatever the Canadian stat is for that) return yards/touchdown(s).

They're on the teams stats pages as well has the league stats pages.

There are stats for field goal returns as well as punt returns and kick off returns. This screen shot is for a team that doesn't have any stats in that category to report (no games played yet), but the categories are there.

Return yardage, resulting from any form of kick, is a separate category and not lumped in to the defensive categories. The exception to this is that I also put the punt return yards a punter had against him, in the punting category. This is because the return yards effects the punters net yards.
