Another Scoring Bug
I am playing (testing) an 32 team fantasy league using american rules and I found another scoring bug....TEAM A is leading TEAM B 28-0 with 0:16 to go in the first half, Team A has the ball inside opponent 30 yd. line. They do NOT kick a field goal and the clock expires, so at half time the score reads 29-0. How did they get 1 point added to their total?
This follows the scoring bug I witnessed, where a team scores a TD after the game clock expired (0:06 to go when the ball was snapped) and was not awarded the TD, thus losing the game.
The 3rd bug I saw was a team trailing by more than 14 pts, scoring a TD and electing to go for a 2 pt conversion. They were successful on the conversion, but instead of being awarded 2 pts, they recieved another 6!, Then they kicked yet another XP, making it a 13 pt swing in their favor.
Now please bear with me here as I am trying to look at this in the most positive way possible and I patiently await update v3.0. But with that being said, 50% of the people involved in my league have voted this game "thumbs down" feeling that there are too many issues that probably won't be fixed in the next update, while the other 50% are willing to "wait and see". These people have been involved in football leagues with me for the better part of a 20 year span utilizing a board game and were excited when I showed them this game initially and wanted to convert our league to a PC online video format. I am truly hoping this game comes out on top in the end but I am beginning to feel the sad feelings of "buyers remorse". I sincerely hope that v3.0 fixes things, because for me at least, the future of this game is depending on it.
With this being said, this game has some awesome features, the playbook generator for one, and the team/uniform generator for another, but sadly, the game play itself has so many holes in it. I have had to stop playing player vs computer games after i beat the PC in my last 3 games 63-0, 72-0, and yes sadly 96-0. I have continued testing in computer vs computer games and have created individual playbooks for all 32 teams in this league.
In closing, please don't flame me for this post, it is my honest opinion after playing nearly 100 games in all 3 modes (Player vs player / player vs PC, & PC vs PC). I am rooting for Max FB to get it right when it's all said and done. But sometimes it seems to me that perhaps it was released prematurely and that alot more beta testing could have been done.

RE: Another Scoring Bug
What is the build number for this? Is this with the latest beta for R3 which was released on Thursday? If so, please post this in the beta forum. I would be surprised if you're getting these results with R3.

pdozer,
Thank you for posting. I have seen some of these bugs in the past, but a few of them were topic threads in beta, and they should be squashed. Which build are you using to test?
Have you started a season yet that count in your league? If not, then it would be best to download the Release 3 beta build and try that out. It isn't perfect, but it is much cleaner than the public build that had been up, and many more scoring bugs have been eliminated.

All right, I received your PM.
The new build should help here.
Expect a few other changes as well with the Release 3 beta build. [:)]

RE: Another Scoring Bug
First of all, I would like to thank David and Marauders for taking the time to PM me and point me to the update, thanks guys.
I have only run 2 games since the update, both comp vs comp mode in league games, basicly to test existing playbooks and a.i. intelligence. I have noticed some very good improvements, most notably in Special Teams. Kick returners are utilizing the sidelines better, place kick holders are positioned alot more accurately for Field Goals & extra points, and I am seeing a more realistic number of Fair Catches on punts, and the punting team is downing the ball inside the 5 yard line at times (once on the 1-yard line and twice on the 2 yard line). I am very impressed with the improvements in game play.
I have not yet seen any scoring flaws yet so I am very optimistic there. Great Job!
Now I saw that you mention more improvements are on the way and I think that is awesome. I see that during league play each team still only has 1 time out per half so I hope that is fixed soon.
One thing I would like to mention is something I noticed during Penalties. Offensive holding is a 10 yard penalty that negates the play, forcing a down over. What I have seen twice in o ne of the games is offensive holding called resulting in a 1st & 15 scenario and once as a 1st & 13 scenario, so I'm thinking the yards were assessed after the play or it isn't correct yet. Both times it should have been 1st & 20.
I know only 2 games is not much to go by in giving an assessment but I felt obligated to mention the noted improvements after you guys were so quick to help me get straightened out. I have yet to try the new PDS system but all in all I am feeling very good about the improvements that have been made, Thank you! [:)]

I just checked this with the latest build and the stock teams. It looks correct to me.
- Enter league mode.
- Selected stock US League.
- Select any game from schedule.
- Click Play Button
- Select Coach mode for home team.
- Game loads and processes the stadium pan.
- Enters into select kick off play and both teams have 3 timeouts per half.
Are you using the stock leagues? Did you reset the leagues before using them with the new build?

RE: Another Scoring Bug
No, this is a league I created and I was trying to keep the season going without resetting. Can I edit league during a season to check this?

RE: Another Scoring Bug
Looking in the league rules, are the time outs per half set to 1 or 3?
If they're set to 1 and you want to change it, you need to end the current season, change the rules, then start a new season.
Also, if this is an older league (from R2) you will need to reset it before use on R3.

RE: Another Scoring Bug
I see no place that shows how many timeouts are selected, I noticed this from day 1 and thought it was always a bit odd. from my post about the PDS system, it sounds like I'll just be doing a fresh install anyway. will i still need to reset the league if i back it up, do a fresh install and reimport the league and teams after reinstalling the game? when i reset will i lose custom PLAYERS that i have created?
edit: when I reinstall, do i install the original, disc, then r2, then r3? or do i skip r2 and go straight to r3?

RE: Another Scoring Bug
Oh.. You're right.. Im getting ahead of myself. The code for that is in the game but for the beta I've not enabled the control for people to change. Sorry.. I need to flip that on before the next beta release.
What you have is hard coded to the field. So if you have selected an American field, it's a single time out, a Canadian field, is 3. But if you're using out of date (R2) league files, that may be interfering with things. What I'll do is try some tests with old league files to see if that would be why you're not getting the correct number of time outs.
Yes, resetting the league removes all players. The manual covers all the things that happen when you reset a league.

RE: Another Scoring Bug
You can save your rosters if you have access before resetting the league
make sure you have a copy of the league mdb file in a seperate folder
just open the league mdb file (the one outside of maximum-football folder) copy everything except the ID column because that's an auto generated number
reset the league
then paste everything back the same way
I've done this once and it worked [8D]
If you don't have Access you might wanna try open office I'm not sure you can copy multiple columns with open office I'll have to check when I get back to work.
