Three letters are just right - abbreviations explained

Gary Grigsby’s World at War is back with a whole new set of features. World at War: A World Divided still gives complete control over the production, research and military strategy for your side, but in this new updated version you’ll also be able to bring spies into the mix as well as neutral country diplomacy, variable political events and much more. Perhaps the largest item is the ability to play a special Soviet vs. Allies scenario that occurs after the end of World War II.

Three letters are just right - abbreviations explained

Post by Protagonist »

Most of those who post on these boards have been playing Gary Grigsby's World at War for quite a while and have a shorthand for many things (including World at War which would be WaW and A World Divided which would be AWD).

I wanted to start a post so some of them could be defined. Anyone that wants to define an abbreviation can reply here so the newbies can keep up with some of the posts. I will update the top post with the definitions.

Let me start:

AA - Anti Air, game usage usually is the unit attribute

ASW - Anti Submarine Warfare, game usage usually is the unit attribute

AWD - A World Divided, the game you are playing

CAB - Combined Arms Bonus

CAG - Carrier Air Group

CAM - Combined Arms Modifier

CAP - Combat Air Patrol

CV - Carrier Volplane or Fixed Wing Carrier, US Naval usage - Fleet Aircraft Carrier

D - Deutschland (Germany)

DEI - Dutch East Indies

DoW - Declaration of War

FoW - Fog of War

GE - Germany

HB - Heavy Bomber

HF - Heavy Fleet

LF - Light Fleet

NMRC - Non-Military Resource Consumption

PP - Production Point(s)

RP - Resource Point(s)

SigInt - Signal Intelligence

Tac - Tactical Bomber (vs Heavy Bomber)

TF, TRS - Transport Fleet

UK - United Kingdom, game usage for the Scotland and England geographically

WA - Western Allies

WaW - World at War

WR - War Readiness, and WR Bump for War Readiness increase

CAB - Combined Arms Bonus

FYI - This has usually been referred to as CAM = Combined Arms Modifier in the development forum.

Yes, I read that one somewhere as well. But the manual doesn't use it, and in the strategy section at the back the term "bonus" is used for it several times. Can't hurt to recognize both though.

A CAB is something I ride in when my CAR is broken. A CAM has many uses in different machines. AA is of course Alcoholics Anonymous. CAP is something you wear on your head. Isnt a CV a joint in a car somewhere? TAC is someone forgetting the T in Tact. ASW would be A Single White what ever in an advertisement for a date. AWD of course would be A White Divorced what ever in a similiar add. And WAW is something your kids do when they want attention.

HEHEHEHE
