Fake handoff problem

Post by dreamtheatervt »

I love the way my fullback covers up like he is being handed the ball when my QB fakes to him, but there are two problems that happen with this, and they may be related.

The RB slows considerably when taking the fake, and he "flinches" for a lack of a better term. The "flinching" I can deal with as it is just asthetics, but the FB slowing considerably needs to be fixed IMO. My TB is beating the FB to the LOS even though the FB should easily beat him there.

I have brought this up at least 2-3 times in beta testing, I have many plays, example options, were the QB fakes to one run back and then hands to another.  I have cases where the RB faked to is diving into the line and the other RB crossing behind him, but with the current fake animation the RB faked to stops and the RB getting the ball actually crosses infront of him.  On option plays I had to have the QB fake to the dive man, then move back and then down the line, otherwise the RB faked to always blocks the QB path.  As a player and coach, the RB receiving a fake was always drilled to never slow down so this is very unrealistic.  Sure the animation is nice but it just isnt working now, unless the RB can make the fake move while still moving full speed toward the line, it should be removed.

Yes it was reported. There were higher priority items to address. I'll see about doing something about it for the next public beta release.

Cool beans, I look forward to the fix.  It might help if there was a "known bugs" sticky so we don't repost things that are known to be wrong.

Could you guys tell me where your backs are lined up?  If they are too close to the line, the handoff will get messed up with guys bumping into each other.  I have seen formations with backs too close in several playbooks people have drawn up for Maximum-Football.

In an "I" formation, the backs should generally be two yards or so apart in a 4-6, 5-7, or 6-8 set up.

Do you have a clear path past the quarterback?

Todd I dont think it is a matter of spacing, as an example I have a formation with a FB behind the QB and a HB lined up behind the OT.  The QB fakes to the HB who is diving into the line between the OG and OT.  He then hands off to the FB who is moving directly to the sideline through where the FB started, then the breaks off tackle.  In this play with the fake the HB stops still and bends down to fake covering up the ball, he stops dead, the FB actually ends up getting the ball and running in front of the HB to get off tackle.  If the HB ran full speed into the line there would be no problem.  It seems that the RB faked to stops dead as he does the bending over animation.

All right. The fake animation stops the player's forward motion.  I just checked it out in a new play.

It may or may not have something to do with the animation itself, as it didn't used to do that when I was designing offensive plays.

Like NML said, spacing is not the problem.  It is an animation/game problem.

Yes, I agree.  I posted that I checked it out in the PDS as well.

David has taken a note of this here and from the beta board.
