Chumming with Nemo

Post by Jutland13 »

Hello all this is my 1st AAR. Given my time constraints, I will need to be fairly brief. This is Nemo and I's 3rd game (inherited Lunacy, RHS and now this new RHS) In each instance we have have agreed to end the previous games for practical reasons. We both hope to be able to play out the string in this match. These are no holds barred games, with only a few ground rules. I have included the combat report from turn 2. in the ist turn Pearl airbases only were hit, along with damge in the DEI. Landings in Borneo, Kandari, Rabaul, Lunga, Johnson Island, Wake Island and along the Aleutian chain. He has also barred retreat up the Malaysian Peninsula. Johore Baru, as per agreement will be invaded in turn two. My opponent is building his perimeter in the Pacific and looking for a quick victory in the DEI and Burma to then strike at India, I suspect. Curiously Pearl was left unscathed as only the airbases were hit, no damage done to the warships. I have raced from Pearl with two large forces of CA,CL and DDs to move South. My intent was to move past the position of the KBs original point as I suspect they were setting up for a trap on my CVs and would move West to attack my CVs or East past Pearl to seal that route. As it was they escaped unscathed a force of over 30 ships. They are at full speed and should make their escape. I left the full battlefleet at Pearl. They are too slow to escape and can be used to halt a direct invasion.
Heavy losses on the airfields leaves PH a bit vulnerable, but I already have 30+ fighters ready and a large force of B-17s ready for naval attacks. Another turn should see my fighters double and with my AA make Pearl uninviting.
In the Phillipines I got of easy as weather halted his strikes on Clarke, although all shipping was severely damaged and is useless. I have made good the escape of over 40 Tomahawk/Warhawk fighters. In the DEI I have withdrawn air forces towards Burma from the DEI and Australia. I plan to try and pick my spots, keep moving and stand only as long as I can inflict some moderate damage, but maintain my fighter untits for the longer battle ahead.
The Repulse went down on day one, but it appears the POW has made her way to freedom along with a number of CLs and DDs. I will regoup at Ceylon and hope to strike where opportunity exists. My primary focus is to resist in Burma and build up in India, as I feel that is his primary goal.
The Soviets are active from day one, so I plan to apply as much pressure as possible to keep his troop commitments in Manchuko as high as possible. An aggressive China will support this hopefully. Below are the results of turn 2 with some general comments.

As can be seen Nemo is pushing a very frantic, but well organized pace. I expect this to continue.
As is the case against a very good opponent and one as experienced as Nemo, I need to carefully
manage my defeat.

My plan is to move my three US CVs to India over the next 2 weeks and hopefully catch his forces with only small CVEs or CVLs.
Due to some good first day fortune I am amassing considerable air strenght in india already, but my forces are far flung and his
rapid advance may not allow all of this to happen as planned.

I'm glad to see that you are doing an AAR against Nemo. [:D][:D]

You say that moving your 3 CV's to India. [&:]
Do you feel that defend India is more important than defending the East Pacific Island chains?? I know from other threads that Nemo is drawn to India like a moth to a flame, but according to El Cid, taking India in RHS is extremely unlikely. I would use my CV's to defend the East Pacific and avoid a direct confrontation with KB.

I would be interested in hearing how your fighter pools are holding up as my impression on 1st review is that it will be tight for the allies for a long time
