RE: Baiting Yankee Doodle Fighter Jocks
Yes, guess Andy's moving base force units! Not sure his bases in the south are within air transport
range of Malaya.
Relatively quiet: Andy is building up forces for an attack on Singapore and Eastern Malaya.
It will become unpleasent when Singapore falls, but 1000 ac on ground attack will be hard to resist.
So let's fight for as long as possible.
The Army in Burma is growing, should be able to face the enemy in a few weeks with 6-7 divisions.

RE: Baiting Yankee Doodle Fighter Jocks
Trying to produce the III Dinah III - KAI, but production is transferred to another?
model each time. So it doesn't look like the game will allow me this FB?? Will ask Joe to
check this out.
Same problem with any outdated models. I got 2 formations still equipped with the older version
of the Betty that can't be upgraded (bug?), but if I try to produce more it gets auto upgraded [:(]
If Andy had rushed on he could have captured Tavoy and Bangok, but now my defenses have been upgraded.
Feel rather confident that we can hold for some time, especially since Andy has to reduce Singapore first.
Got some 2000 ac resting and training, need ca 2 months to be 100% ready for another round.
This time with the KB and 20 new subs me hopes. All kamikaze units will also be filled with new ac and pilots.
Will unleash some pretty big waves with more experienced units mixed in next time.
Zuikaku down to 19 sys damage, still slow going. The Mutsu is down to 10 sys while the Ise still struggles
with 43.
AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 10/17/44
Air Combat
Nothing much of interest: Enemy bomardments against the usual bases.
I've moved 100 fighters to Truk: will try to keep it open. Want a base to hit
the enemy in the flank from. Andy need his Lightnings elsewhere, so if he only
keeps sending his bombers....
Ground Combat
I'm evacuating Johore - see the sit screen! Andy got some 2329 AP assembled
and I only got 3(+99%:p) forts in Johore and we're taking causalties from bombardments.
Plan is to gather 1000 AP in Singapore behind a river and 9 forts. This will slow Andy down.

Not much to report, still re-grouping in Burma. Bringing some oil out of Palembang

So how long will it take him to capture Singapore? Depends on how much air bombardment he thinks
is necessary. Marching over that river will cost him a bloody shock attack.

RE: Baiting Yankee Doodle Fighter Jocks
Wish I could Fish, but the nearest big air bases to Sing are Palembang and in Borneo.
Don't have enough long range fighters to put up an efficient LRCAP. Throwing in 200 fighters
in Sing would mean that they would be trapped there, so I guess we just have to sit back and take it.
Each day that fortress Singapore holds out is another day that our pilots can train and another day that
our engineers can build stronger forts and another day our shipyards can repair battle damage and ready new
ships of war [8D]
Thx Rainerle, a bit silent on this AAR for the time being - always like that in between major battles.
Must say I don't have control over R&R time for Allied units, but I do know that we don't have to worry about
the 2nd Marine Division ever again [:D] (RIP!) The 1st Marine was worn down in the battles for New Britain if I
don't got it wrong, not sure when I saw the 3rd last time.
Anyone with a lot of time on his hand is welcome to browse back through the history of this AAR and look at the screens
taken of the last long drawn land campaign in New Guinea, New Britain and the Marshalls.

RE: Baiting Yankee Doodle Fighter Jocks
The cl Yahagi that was bombed to a wreck moved out of Saigon today, heading for Hong Kong with
88 sys damage. Saved a lot of good ships lately, and quite a few destroyers and cruisers will soon
rejoin the fleet. Pretty sure Andy considered them write offs!
Been thinking about sending the KB on a raid far away from Singapore and the Allied fleets. Maybe
we could strike an enemy convoy really hard somewhere without putting it at risk?
There are 3 fleet and 3 light carriers at our disposal, the 3 cv's could form a fast and powerful
strike force. The cvl's would only slow them down.
Possible that I'll wait a little while, still got 5 and 6 sys damage on the Shokakau and Katsuragi,
and they lack their latest upgrade. Wish we could have had a 120 ac version of the Shinano ready by now.
Just BS that we have to take the 48 ac supply cv version [:(]

Andy LRCAP'ed Singapore and we lost 10 transports. Managed to bring in enough
reinforcements to boost AP value by 40, so the effect of last weeks bombardments
has been nullified [8D]
Got 600 transports in the pools, so we continue for a little while longer.
Would like to maximize a strike from Palembang/Java against an Allied carrier force.
Will move an Air HQ and a steady trickle of reinforcements to the area and prepare for
the day the stars are correctly positioned...
Moving garrison units to all minor bases in Burma, don't want an enemy paradrop behind my

RE: Baiting Yankee Doodle Fighter Jocks
Both Tavoy and Bangok now got some 700 AP. Will be a tough nut with 9 forts, so the
rapid way into Burma is finally sealed. Rangoon will receive a fresh division in 4 weeks.
Any landings in Indo China will be met in force as well.
So even though the fall of Malay will be painful, Andy will have to slug it out in a long protracted
ground campaign - or load his troops into his transports and face a refurbished Japanese Air Force and Navy.
There are some 7800 Jap ac on the map as of today.
The most important way to fight a defensive campaign in the late war is to fall back systematically and refuse
the most important bases to the enemy (unless he fights like he11 for them!-). Surplus troops can slowly be
tucked into the shrinking perimeter defense and while the enemy's supply lines are getting longer and requires more
and more ground troops and garrisons, the opposite will happen in the Empire [:D]
The Iron Laws of Logistics will soon catch up with Andy, and the Inner Citadel is becoming more formidable for
each day that passes.
Got to move the Southern Area Army HQ out of Palau. Base supply went below 20k and suddenly air units in Burma refused
to take replacemnts *grumble*.

RE: Baiting Yankee Doodle Fighter Jocks
Yup ... and a corallary is "counting" on holding anything in particular could hurt you since if Allies are willing to commit the material, they can (eventually) take anything (well home islands might be tough). The most important way to fight a defensive campaign in the late war is to fall back systematically and refuse
the most important bases to the enemy (unless he fights like he11 for them!-). Surplus troops can slowly be
tucked into the shrinking perimeter defense and while the enemy's supply lines are getting longer and requires more
and more ground troops and garrisons, the opposite will happen in the Empire
But another "law" is that you actually have to expend part of your airforce every now and then ... you only have so many "slots" in the OOB and you usually have a surplus of planes that you can't use. So once the planes are trained up far enough to accomplish something, you actually need to try to find a useful way (a way that costs the allies material) to expend them, so you can refill and retrain and keep that cycle going. But I have to say that you haven't been hurting for opportunities to expend aircraft !!! And you've even usually gotten at least a little to show for it - so I'd say you're followin' (and writin') the laws pretty darn well so far !!!

PzB,
I've been following your great AAR for quite some time with lots of fun. Thanks for taking this trouble for us [&o]
Several times when you sounded a bit frustrated I was abbout to cut in and try to boost your morale - but others did that for me all the time. [:)] So you see - you can count on lots of supporters [:D]
Now, I just want to praise the great morale your last post shows. Looking forward to the tough battles to come [:'(] Keep it up !

That's true Joe! Received a few outdated Kate and Lily units: will use them in the kamikaze role after training them.

Any way you could check the upgrade paths here, is there something I have missed?
It's a gamble to throw in thousands of ac against the enemy, cause if you throw it against a 'feint' it could compromise the ability to strike at the real threat when it comes. The time to hit back is when there is a lot of enemy activity and opportunities to hit more lightly escorted convoys.
Nice to have you aboard Hartwig! [:)] Always nice to see new people post here.
Frustration usually accumulates when 1-2000 ac have been shot down for no gain by the enemy CAP...
It's a morale battle - mostly with yourself - to figh a stock game as Japan in late 1945 [;)]
This game should come to an end within a year me thinks. Can anyone enlighten me on the most likely end date?
By 8 45 Andy will at best have a 1-1 ratio in points: will this prolong the game into 1 46?
Have to 'save' some assets for the final battles to come: Playing WitP is like eating a better meal, the goal is to have
something left of everything until the last bite <G>
Most quiet turn: Andy played the turn when he came back from his pub round [:D]
Sending asw TFs to the Marianas and Okinawas to counter the sub threats there. 2 enemy boats
have been reported hit over the last 2 days.
I have a large amount of new patrol/asw ships at my disposal: they can train on subs - got other
plans for them over the next year.

Read about the victory and end game conditions in the manual:
Pretty sure this game will go on until March 1946 [:'(]
It will take Andy another 4-5 months to achieve parity in points (at least).
It will be very difficult for the Allies to achieve a 2-1 score in 1945, so the game will end in 1946.
This will move the victory level 2 levels in favor of Japan, giving the Allies a draw at best. If more than 3 atomic
bombs are used the victory level will move a further level in favor of Japan.
Another 15 months of he11...[X(]

RE: Baiting Yankee Doodle Fighter Jocks
October is coming to an end! Guess we have another few weeks before Andy sorties
again. By that time we should have 2000 ac ready for action. Doubt I'll deploy many naval
resources. Have to husband them for the very hard year of 1945....
The good thing is that the number of Franks, Jacks and Georges will be much higher compared to
Zekes and Oscars now. Should be able to claim a lot of kills. The Randy FB has replaced all but a
few of the Lily light bomber formations, quite handy ac. Keeping them in rear bases as bomber interceptors.
Night fighters are also being trained, will use them quite extensively together with subs and night naval
attack ac and light surface forces.
