Stretch that wall :-)
Just tinkering around with the unpacked arena from FBMax and noticed that if you double the length of the main wall, think its s31.bmp, it makes things look better than the default size. It is 512x64 unpacked, I just changed it to 1024x64 by making a new file and copy and pasting the old wall twice. You can get a bunch of stuff on it. Here is a pic of it in game, with all the sponsors of the 'New York Stars' of my Indoor Gridiron League

I think The EAS' FB Games had the same paper thin motionless fans, in '04 and fixed it in '05. I know it is a very minor fluffish thing; however, when you pull-up your chair to view just the playing field and move back, its bad graphics become a distraction.

RE: Stretch that wall :-)
Well, thanks. However, you could put anything on the wall. I just did company logos because they were handy at the time. My main point of the exercise was that by doubling the length of the wall, whatever you put on it doesnt look stretched as it did before. Although, the indoor arena looks a bit different since the most recent release. Maybe a new texture or two. Im working with an unpacked version of the 'pre release 3' game.
I think Madden animated the crowds in 03 or 04. I know for a fact they were NOT animated in 02 but were in 04. Never bought 03.
I would prefer they not be animated in MaxFB, not this version anyway. It would no doubt cause a dip in performance, which is a bad thing. Those of us who appreciate Davids work, hope that MaxFB is successful for him financially, enough that we might get a new version down the road, with all the features and extra goodies we like. Which for the most part, sounds pretty greedy since the game is feature rich as is.
David, take your time on the 'Create a SuperFan' feature

I agree awell, I've never liked the idea of animated crowds in CPU games. Ya, they look nice graphic wise, but if you have a low end system, you suffer.

Where is the limit?
I guess it is what the majority of fans, purchasers and market wants. I would contend that by the posts here that most want it to be after some of what FBP '98 made a FB Gaming Foundation.

While, I agree with both of you; however, I would have to say, the Foundation that FBP '98 established is more important to me then all the extra visuals (FLUFF as I call it) after 3-D Graphics. At the same time it is strange that the players are in 3-D and the crowd is in paper thin 1-D? If we can call it that and not maybe 2-D?

As far as out of date PCs, I agree with to an extent. I ask again, where is the line drawn? I draw it at 3-year old software. If it is too far restricting then the game will drastically suffer (not just its graphics).

Yes, no animated crowds, please. Focus the effort on the football side of the game, not the superfluous eye-candy.
RE: Stretch that wall :-)
well in all the stadiums that maxfb provided and others that edited it and added things, i preffer the 2 sided crowds better than the none ones,it just adds more realistic and keeps me from getting bored of the same scene. it would be nice to have animated crowds though, but that would be to much for the developers which is only one individual.

Keep in mind you're also eating up video memory in a huge way by doing this. While it may work well on your system, others that download and use this stadium may run out of video memory causing problems for the game on their systems.
Textures should be kept as small as possible.

RE: Stretch that wall :-)
Animated 2D (billboard based) crowds are not technically all that difficult. They're just shaders. It's the art creation that takes the time to do.
3D polygon based crowds are technically not all that difficult to do either. But they introduce a wide range of other problems, not the least of which it would add to the total scene's polycount in a huge way making the minimum system specs even higher than they already are. Yes you can do Level-Of-Detail so that they're only 3D if you're up close but that still eats up CPU cycles that could be better spent else where.
And in either case, I'd have to create a special set of tools for my 3D modeler so that the game would know how to load them and use them. Not difficult, but not trivial either and would take quite some time.
All that said, improving all aspects of the game graphics and animations (especially the tackle animations) is on the to do list.

I agree with Mr.Winter besides i can do with out animated crowds. But would like to see all stadiums having 2d Fans
RE: Stretch that wall :-)
what are we talking about?
Back from the dead, I'm here to make ammends with the people I've ticked off and the people that were nice enough to make stuff I requested.

David, take your time on the 'Create a SuperFan' feature![]()
[:D]
I'm with you on that.
How many resources were spent on that superfan crap instead of game play?

I'd say 2D animated fans would be better than 3d fans when the graphics are updated in the future. It would be better to use the bandwidth for game play, 3D sideline players, and cheerleaders.
Hmmm, maybe a "create a cheerleader" feature would be nice. [8D]
