British delay at El Aghelia 12/5/41

We have been given the job of slowing the Germans down or even stopping them if at all possible. Today is clear and the visabilityis 700 today good shooting range for our gumnners id say old chap.

As always its a schorcher again today then tonight will be like an ice box. Sand drifts into every thing it seems. This makes every thing feel like sandpaper even your dam pants. I truly hate this god forsaken part of the country and dont see why we dont just let the Germans live here if they want so they can be as miserable we are right now.

The boys are dug in and are talking like there is nothing going to even happen. They have no doubt that we will beat the Germans today just dont know how bad is all. We can expect an over abundance of tanks that is for sure. At least they will be well with in our gunners range before they have a chance to even see us.

Our big guns are primed and ready to go just need to give them a shout and the rounds wil be here quick im told. There is nothin like the sight or sound of a big 150 shell smakin down on a tank that has no idea its on the way. Going to be one bloody heck of a battle of that im sure.

Were in for the fight of our lives today. Only 25 minutes into the fight and we can count at least 80 tanks. Stugs PvE and Pz IIIH tanks by the buckets. Only 25 minute into the fight and we have lost 3 tanks already. A crusader from A and B CO so far. Plus one Matilda from Tank CO E 2nd platoon.

Our boys are layin it into them but can hardly dent these monsters. The Matildas Howitzer Just bounces off them. Have moved my tank force forward some so as to get some side shots hopfully. Thinkin a lot about movin them back and let the infantry take the brunt of the fight for a while. Let the enemy tanks play there self out on my strong front line.

Had my adjutant up front a little while ago eggin the boys on. Now hes at the first aid station gettin a wound looked at. Took one in the right buttock few minutes ago just as he was gettin out of the jeep. They said he squealed just like a porker from back home called gut belly. Looks a bit like him too old boy.

Got to go the Germans are movin again can hear the throaty roar of the stugs revin up. Dam boys shoot him before he moves knock his dam turret off that will stop him cold!!!

Little picture of all the German tanks before we tear them apart.

Man this ended quick 40 minutes for the battle. Guess they were losing too many men and equipment to hang around and beat on us. All of a sudden they were gone. I mean gone nothin left in sight for us to even look at let a lone shoot at. We lost 68 men and 7 tanks. While they were losing 918 men and 65 tanks plus one artty.

We were dug in good and had a lot of protection from our slit trenches. Never knew a fighting force could disapeer as fast as they did today. it was kind of funny it was going hot and heavy and then it was just turned off so to speak.

Oh well we are just glad we came out as good as we did against such a heavy tank force and lose very little in men and equipment. We will be well rested and fit and ready to go next month which is the first of a new year.
