Well my first priority after the debacle on Jan 2nd & 3rd was to get the escorts away from his CV's. I split off the two most damaged DD's and they meet their fate admirably. The other ships have made it out of the area.
In Other theaters Sandsapar in northern New Guinea falls, A lot of PC's sweep mines at Kwaleign, I sunk all his current minesweepers in the area, a lot of mines destroyed PCH32 hits one and sinks.
In SRA BB group pounds Batavia.
Martins hit AP's looks like their experiance is climbing.
I see transports moving into the area, he must be just days away from his next main attacks

Well the second invasion of Wake has begun with good results for the Allies, the inital assualts by the South Seas Detachment, are rebuffed and the Coastal guns unloaded with very good damage. Patrick is pushing heavy at Johore Bharu and his two assualts have convinced me to pull back to Singapore.
On the Chinese front it is definate Patrick wants Yenan more deliberate attacks and fort reductions, he has 12 units there and more coming

BB's bombard Balikapapan and an invasion force begins landing on the 9th, forces from Tarakan are here so lets see how they do.
The mini KB is providing cover for this force as another BB force up the channel, A martin landed a 250lb bomb on the Fuso, we understand it shattered two windows, they must be very distressed.
Johore Bharu falls, while the SS Truant hits an empty AP, Other then that just assorted bombing runs and ground bombardments.
At wake one CV hits the ground forces, guess they need to strengthen the moral of the troops, the TBD's don't fly due to weather, also at Tarawa an AP hits a mine.

Japan Operations 7 Dec-10 Jan 42
I have tried to move fast to keep Tim off balance as to where and when the stikes will come. The SRA Operation is going well, and Singapore looks ready to fall in a week or two, which is sooner than historical. Operations have slowed a bit due to the opertational pace. I have been able to follow up most every invasion with Air Support Engineers who are timed to land two days later following the invasion. I have taken lots of risk to move fast, but the dumbing down of the Dutch Air Force has made that not as risky as would appear. Generally I am being limated not by enemy forces, but by logistical issues. Wake Island has been a pain in the you know what, and the sinking of the Saratoga was a great relief. I thought two US Carriers were there, and I was bracing for the first sinking of an IJN Carrier, which would have hurt greatly. There was only one US Carrier, and Wake fell this past 10 Jan 42. Wake has been the single most costly battle to date for me in ships, mostly light PCs. I know it is just the beginning, for the real battles are coming. Other than my push to Wallis Island, nothing is out of the historical norm. My pilot pool is starting to go down, to replace loses from AA fire mostly. Burma is going better than expected, Ragoon fell with only one fight. He must be pulling everything back, and what was there was only what could not get out in time, prior to my Naval Air putting a stop sea movement in the Buma and SRA theaters. His fighter force has not been able to do much. I am sort of at a cross roads on what to do but cannot be specific. I have Java to take in the SRA, and will launch two more major operations within the next week (game time). There is so much to do, and so little time to take advantage of it. The Fleet is getting tired, and needs rest and repair, but no rest yet.
A note on my MOD to the NIK Mod:
A note on my MOD to the NIK Mod:
- I reduced the number of pilots in pools from the NIK MOD, but increased the training of to 30/45.
- Plane maneuverability ratings taken from the the game Pacific Fighters, I think their data is more accurate that what is in this game, and I was able to quantify maneuverability using the "best turn at speed" numbers from IL-Compare 3.04. Max air speed was taken from this also.
- Allied Production of Aircraft was increased, but not sure if that will make much of a difference till the Zero bonus wears off, but there have not been too many air battles anyway. I have noticed one of the lowest number of "Aces" by this time frame from my WITP experience, so he is avoiding most Air to Air battles, a wise decision.
"Actions Speak Louder than Words"
Jan 10th thru 13th, The Japanese Juggernaught continues
I forgot to save the combat report for Jan 10th and 11th but mainly Wake fell, Balikpapan fell quickly, Tuangyi in Burma fell and a base in North New Guinea, He moved into Singapore and Shocked attack and reduced forts, this continued the next two days. I don't think it will last a week. He has 5 divisions there 38th div, 55 div, 5th div, 18th div and Imperial Guards. Singapore's defenders are wasted, and the forts on the 13th have been reduced to 1. He also invaded all the remaining bases in Borneo and they should fall. The mini KB sailed within 60 miles of Soerbaja and dared my aircraft to attack. None flew, we have to give the dutch some backbone sometime, maybe they were saving themselves for the soft transports.
In the PI he sent a tank group into clark and it was spanked and sent home, I believe he will finish Singapore first then think about PI or leave it alone, not sure which.
In China he shocked Jan 10th at Ichang, Wuchow and Yenen all 0-1 no fort reductions, he has bombarded since
In the Central Pacific he has major building going on at wallis already lvl 1 airfield to cover his pago invasion, also Baker has a lot of activity to cover a Canton. I have not spotted the over 4 big CV's but assume they are in the area waiting to pounce, or off in the shipping lanes.
No sub activity these 4 days, although 2 AK and 1 PG hit mines deposited by subs.

In the PI he sent a tank group into clark and it was spanked and sent home, I believe he will finish Singapore first then think about PI or leave it alone, not sure which.
In China he shocked Jan 10th at Ichang, Wuchow and Yenen all 0-1 no fort reductions, he has bombarded since
In the Central Pacific he has major building going on at wallis already lvl 1 airfield to cover his pago invasion, also Baker has a lot of activity to cover a Canton. I have not spotted the over 4 big CV's but assume they are in the area waiting to pounce, or off in the shipping lanes.

Very little air activity, he seems to conserve his airforce for engagements, and reduces his op losses.
Various minor bases in New Guinea and Solomons fall.
Singapore falls and 55k troops surrender, Percival did not hold well. I forgot to switch him out of command.
The last division in southern PI surrenders. Rabaul is pounded.
In China he has pulled out of Yenan and it looks like the buildup and attacks are at Ichang, probably using rail to suck forces north then he can quickly move his troops while mine would have to march roads to counter.
Martins starting to get hits, experiance is finally getting better.

RE: Jan 16th thru 19th Singapore falls
Operational Pause, log needs to catch up with the advance. Trying to get Air Base Support, fuel and supplies in place for next phase. With the fall of Singapore I consider Phase I complete. PI can wait, and wait a long time as far as I am concerned. They are not a threat, and will be finished when I am ready. China is holding out nicely for Tim Kia Shiak, nothing but terrible loses in valuable well trained men. I am down -100 pilots already for the IJN pilots, not good. I have reduced air operations, during this Operational Pause, to save on pilots and planes. I think I pretty much control the Seas now, I have seen no more surface ships trying to interfere with the expansion of the EMPIRE of JAPAN. In another month of game time I will up-date again.

Samarinda falls the last base in Borneo, a lot of Jap troops handing out some gibberish about Asian Co Prosperity Sphere, we don't know what they are talking about as everyone is happy under allied control, we said it so it must be so.
He definatly has cut a lot of his air activity. China is stable at the moment but he is in a big shift. In Burma I pulled back and have set up the defence of India, its the latest rage of the Jap fan boys, Yes I shipped all available troops there. He has Tank rgt next to Akyab.
In Palembang I see 107 ships so definatly Java is immeninant.
In Rabaul there were I believe over 90 ships two days ago now approx 67, my memory could be bad, but I believe he has started his push there, probably BB forces heading out first, or troops towards south.
Lae has expanded airfield to 3 which means he can cover the invasion of PM
In South Pacific have spotted more ships and CV at Wallis, he should be ready to push at Pago first I believe then Canton. He has built Wallis to level 1 so it can air cover Pago.

Patrick has finally begun his push the last four days.
Central Pacific he is still Reconning all bases.
SW Pacific the largest Bombardment force to date has showed up at Port Morseby.
SRA Bali is invaded and mini KB moves to Bali to cover landing
Burma his tanks move closer to Akyab, I bomb them with B17's but he finally puts up cover the last 2 days and stops the fighter escorts, they still cannot handle fighters yet, quality of aircraft and experiance to low.
China still quiet minor bombardments, his forces still shifting but they have not stopped, so Ichang, Homan or Changsa will be his target.
Probably Ichang or Changsa.
Phillipines, patrick charges across the river at clark with 3 tank units, all get spanked two go home, the next day a Bde follows and gets mauled but does not retreat. [:'(]
North Pacific Kiska invaded and Kaga spotted 300 miles from Dutch Harbor providing air cover, it is exactly halfway, I don't really feel like protecting polar bears at the moment.
I have made some errors in force positioning, but Patrick is pushing a little faster then expected in some areas. But at the moment I am practicing the bend don't break principle and have not broken. More of my plans will be revealed in the next couple of weeks as his Phase II gets completly underway.

Burma his tanks move closer to Akyab, I bomb them with B17's but he finally puts up cover the last 2 days and stops the fighter escorts, they still cannot handle fighters yet, quality of aircraft and experiance to low.
China still quiet minor bombardments, his forces still shifting but they have not stopped, so Ichang, Homan or Changsa will be his target.

North Pacific Kiska invaded and Kaga spotted 300 miles from Dutch Harbor providing air cover, it is exactly halfway, I don't really feel like protecting polar bears at the moment.
I have made some errors in force positioning, but Patrick is pushing a little faster then expected in some areas. But at the moment I am practicing the bend don't break principle and have not broken. Jan 28th and 29th 1942 Port Morseby is invaded
Well Patrick has finally pulled the trigger and in a big way. He not only pounded Port Morseby with a surface fleet, he also landed with both the 2nd and 4th divisions, as there is just PM's defense brigade and a BF, they will probably fall next turn. Sort of distressing that he can spare two divisions in this theatre. Not much doubt where they go next.
In Alaska he lands at Kiska and captures it as the Kaga, Akagi (probably also Soryu) move east of Dutch harbor and sink and damage 2 AP's.
The interesting point is the troops he used. On the combat screen its 7th division which is a home defense unit at Sapporo, we noticed there where a lot of beer bottles washing up on the beaches. This unit was the A/ unit which means, B & C are close by. He had to pay a lot of PP's to move this unit.
Thus 3 new divisions have showed there faces, and Patrick is not afraid to move them thru the oceans. It will be nice to catch one of these at sea, but I can only figure the other half of the KB is near PM. There are still 2 available divisions unaccounted for the 56th and 21st (starts in china).
In SRA Patrick bombards Batavia with large surface force, a CA hits mine, another DD group hits Kragen where I had 3 PT' boats one hits a mine there also.
In China Ichang is his next target, 14 units there 7 just moved on the trail next to it and 14 more next to them. [:-]

Feb 1st thru 4th, China thrust and Soerbaja hit
In these 4 days, just minor events, 3 DD groups strike north Noumea and the Islands to the NE with bombardments, then they withdraw, figure he's checking for troops. None there at the moment [:'(].
In Java Soerbaja is hit with airstrikes as is Batavia, looks like he intends to close those airfields.
In North Pacific and Central Pacific all is quiet for the moment.
In Burma, 4 units are 60 miles from Akyab.
In China, I moved a division 60 miles west of Ichang and he pushed it out with his 7 divisions that moved there. There are now 14 units there, and they will soon move to Ichang. Since he abandoned the Yenen area, I moved my division out to Chengting which produces products, I bombarded to test whats there, and he deliberate attacked, he had only 2 bde, but after the 4th looks like another unit moved in. We will see how much he wants to defend this base, as it is more important then Ichang.

Judging from the losses he seems to be playing quite a conservative game. You've lost less than 100 ships and less than 1000 airplanes and you've been at war for over 7 weeks ( and, to be fair, you've extracted quite a toll for those losses too) . Is it just that he likes to prepare carefully and you are thus both conserving your strength or do you think something else is going on?
