Just a couple of suggestions that you can take or leave.
1 - Send in a few AK's to either Tavoy or Victory Point and take those BF's to Andamann Island so you have a air bridge from Malaya/Sumatra to India for your short legged planes. I think they came from SE India at start. I was usually able to get them there before the Japanese attacked. I like to use them rather than just a sacrifice for nothing. Needs to be set in motion from day 1.

Yes - I plan to get at least one of them (preferably both) to Port Blair early. I haven't decided on how, yet. I've used fast transport TFs in other games, but you're right - it would be smart to send some transports to both bases on Dec 8th. I can always retreat the transports if I pull the base forces out some other way.
4 - I like to send some of the AK's from Manila to northern Borneo to pick up a couple of the British BF's and transport them to northern Oz. The biggest problem in the beginning is lack of Aviation Support for your planes as the SRA gets run over. I've had the planes, but no support for them. [:(] Plus, I set them to building fortifications.

Good idea - Kenny or Scott, if you can evac them, you can use them wherever you want.
Good luck Guys!![&o][&o]

Thanks! [:)]

PG's, AMC's, Q-ships.........what should we do with this handy ships. They are quite powerful. Of note are...

3 Taney Class - PG
2 Black Swan - PG
1 Erie Class - PG
1 Soerabaja - PG
1 George Averoff - PG
3 Aus AMC class - AP
2 British AMC - AP
4 British Q-ships - AP

Most of those PG's are armored, and the AP's are brimming with AA guns and weapons (including torpedos on the british Q-ships). Yet past mid 1942 i get the feeling they become quite useless, as more powerful true warships come online. So we might as well use them in the beginning. Any ideas how to best employ them??

The best bet i think would be to use them in mass, and ambush a japanese CL/DD surface group. How and where we accomplish that, would be the tough part. I think the best place to avoid air attacks, and set up and ambush against a Jap CL/DD surface group would be in the Solomons in the early part of the war. Any other ideas on how to use this ships?

I hadn't looked at them until you pointed them out, but the one negative on these ships that I see is that their experience, almost without exception, sucks. (At least as far as I've looked.) Despite their armament, I think against Jap CLs & DDs, they'd be slaughtered. [:(] At least until the experience builds up.

I'd suggest that the PGs should be used against any lightly-escorted invasions that might develop. The AMCs & Q-ships should be reserved for any early invasions we might be able to pull off, particularly if there's a threat of surface forces against it.

Chuck Kai Shek is currently in negotiations with Admiral of the Fleet Lord Angus to send that base force to Pakhoi. (Am I getting schizophrenic, or what? ) I'd like to send at least one of those AA units to Changsha, though I'm not sure how I'd get it there.

Also, I'd been planning on using the 2 S-class DDs on an offensive mission early (likely suicidal). But they aren't very useful, either, so they're great for withdrawal requirements.

It would be easier to send some of my SEA AA reinforcements to China than extract them from Hong Kong. I'm thinking out loud here. OK - I'll grab a fragment of each AA unit with the two DDs and hopefully at least one will make it through. I'll send a couple transports back to Hong Kong also in order to grab larger chunks, though their mission is almost certainly doomed.

hahaha, its gonna be a blast having you as a teammate. I can give up the BF to go to Pakhoi....but then again the more engineers at Soerabaja...the more of a mess they will leave [;)]...I leave it up to you

AA units will be nice, as they will probably fill out fast at Soerabaja

In my experience it's better to keep high-experience ships out of task forces with low-experience ships. Therefore Marblehead would be better. However, I must admit I'm a little biased...

good point...i'll hit up Scott for the Marblehead then
I do have a couple AOs at Singapore. If I can evac them I'd be happy to lend you at least one for as long as you need it.

nah..too risky..we will need all the AO's we can gather for 1943-44 offensives.

Hmmm... I was planning on using her to mine Mersing. A long defense of the DEI does benefit me in India, but a long defense of Malaya benefits you in the DEI. I'm not convinced yet, but am willing to change my mind.

Are you absolutle positive that Japan will land at Mersing??..cause if they don't..then that minefield is for naught. While Palemberg can be taken overland, Tankers will eventually have to dock there one day....just my 2 cents.

Thracian, sure. I hadn't decided what to do with her yet & if you think that will be useful, ok.

Stronghold - I was planning to send her to mine Kuantun & then help with the minefields in the Bay of Bengal. Like Kung Woo, I'm willing to negotiate on this.

your call there.....Tarakan isn't that important to mine. Just figured you'd be traveling south from Hong Kong, through the Sulu Sea as your escape route, and would be near Tarakan.

OK - it's yours. My only condition is that I want the squadron back ASAP if a threat to India develops.

thanks..will do

------------------------------------------------------

I have a couple more requests myself:
1. On December 8th I'd like to use about 20 more PPs to replace Percival in the Malaya HQ & Heath in IND III Corps.

good call...go for it i say.
2. I want some subs! Ideally I'd like a division (6 boats) of Salmon class initially to help in evacs. By mid-42 I'd also like 1 squadron (2 divs) of Gato class. I could live with one division but Trincomalee is also the closest sub base to the South China Sea. Plus those subs might prove helpful tactically if an invasion of India presents itself. Once the Phillipines is conquered I wouldn't mind a division of S-boats as well. And/or some of the longer-legged Dutch boats once the DEI is conquered.

From the Dutch standpoint, i have 3 damaged subs at the beginning that i will send to India for repairs, that will bring your total up to 6. You can also have my Dutch reinforcement subs that arrive at Columbo in a couple months...i beleive they are O21, O23. Also i will send you any surviving short legged (End 3500) KIX subs to India, once the Dutch defense collapses.

Ahh..forgot about expereince..that is a problem...best to avoid warships then, and try and hit Transports with PGs
Problem is \most of the PG's are too slow to react to lightly defended invasion points, unless they are gaurding the base that is being invaded. That means they shouldn't be used at beaches where there will obviously japanese naval support. In light of that, it appears that the north coast of New Guinea and Solomons will be the best place to operate these ships. In that regards, i'll be sending the PG Soerabaja (with 11.2in guns) to that area lurking for transports.

LOL - I'm already having a lot of fun as well, even if we haven't played a turn yet.

OK, the Hong Kong base force goes to Pakhoi, but I'll give you 2-4 from Malaya for Palembang & Soerabaja. Hopefully I can hold in Malaya for a while. If so, we can alternate - 1st one base force to the DEI (wherever you want it) and then a 2nd to India, and so on.
AA units will be nice, as they will probably fill out fast at Soerabaja

OK, I'll do my best.

I'm not at all positive, but an early landing there (if I don't contest it) could prove disastrous and so I want to make it as costly as possible. Maybe Kung Woo mines Mersing but Stronghold mines Palembang instead of Kuantan.

Great idea! I'v never thought of sending surface raiders to northern New Guinea. You may sink a good number of transports, and even if you don't PG Soerabaja's not a huge loss. Such a move should keep our opponents more cautious, at the very least.

With Aden as the main Brit reinforcement base, it seems like Karachi's fair game. But I'll never let the Japs take it - bwahahahahah...

CEF invading Russia? Sounds fun actually - I've never played Russia. I expect I'll be keeping most of the CEF occupied in China, however.

Bombing of Chinese resources? I don't think they'll do it, but it also seems fair game in this mod. There's a lot of auto-supply in China, so the Chinese can't be starved completely. If they do I'll try to get some heavies into China ASAP & respond in kind & then try to negotiate a truce.

Couples function always wins. Since it takes me 15 minutes to download a turn (Dial up) anyway I will be back in plenty of time. [:D]

A devious plan...

Post by ctangus »

The title bar is pure maskirovka - I don't have any devious plan yet, but our opponents don't know that yet, either. [:)]

The Chinese turn one is done and sent on to Kenny. Summary of China:

Replacements off for all units. Forts building at Changsha, Yenan, Honan & Nanning. No other locations.

I've also sent 1 or 2 or 80 units in motion. Here's a pic of South China:

With a little luck I can surround & eliminate the Japanese at both Ichang & Kaifeng. I'm not counting on that, though. Currently I think that's likely at Ichang but unlikely at Kaifeng.

Even if either of those move doesn't succeed completely, I'm fairly certain, however, that my initial moves will force the Japanese to react to my moves & give me the initiative in the theater. Well, at least mostly... I hope... [;)]

I see you've discovered my devious plan - allow the Japanese to become over-confident by losing large capitol ships early... [;)]

Thanks - I meant to send her to hex 23,55 (one hex to the right of her start location) to be able to contest landings at either Mersing or Kuching on turn 2. Patrol/do not retire, auto-disband on, react 0, home port still Singers. That's potentially in Nell torpedo range from Kompong Som, but I'll take my chances on that. I've hardly ever seen them fly that far.
