Question about ENG LCU's and LCI/LCT's

Post by Zorfwaddle »

What are ENG LCU's considered as for the purpose of loading Xport TF's?

The reason I ask is because I attempted to load a Xport TF made up of a bunch of LCT's and LCI's, just for kicks (The SeeBee unit in question was spending too much time wrecking hotels on Waikiki).

The LCI's loaded no part of the LCU, but the LCT's did.

To me this means that ENG are not "INF," but more ART/ARM.

Anybody? Bueller?

I think it's the vehicles that have an individul load cost that is too big for one but not the other.
There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion.

One would think that the ENG squads and support would load onto the LCI's, but Im probably just fooling my self.

The next project (while invading a few places) is to see how many LCT's it takes to load those clowns and how many LCI's it takes to load various battalion-sized INF units that are hanging around.

Additionally, the LCVP's have piqued my curiousity....

They should have loaded non vehicle squads onto the LCIs. Did the LCIs have any Op Points expended (by refuelling) when you set them to load LCUs?

LCI's (IRL) only have 2 catwalks on the front. If the ENG units are recognised as anything BUT people, they will not be able to load on them..
Is this not correct??

That may be the reason.

Here are the results of my test.

Formed a 30-ship/craft transport TF at PH. Ops points were zero. Loading a SeeBee unit and supplies:

(Eng - Engineer squads, Sup - Support squads, Veh - Vehicle squads)

Read: Ship/Load on Each/Type
8 x LCI/0%/N/A
5 x LCM/100%/Eng, Sup
8 x LCT/80%/Eng, Sup, Veh
6 x LCVP/55%/Eng
1 x LSD/88%/Eng, Sup, Veh
2 x LST/40%/Sup

Now, the LCI's may not have loaded anything because the LSD loaded most of the stuff. In a couple of turns, after they have loaded all the supply they want, Ill unload and try again w/o the LSD, then w/o the LSD and LST's and see what happens.

You might also look to make sure those LCI's are the troop carrying kind, and not "gunships",etc..

LCI's only load combat infantry and their supplies.
Sing to the tune of "Man on the Flying Trapeze"
..Oh! We fly o'er the treetops with inches to spare,
There's smoke in the cockpit and gray in my hair.
The tracers look fine as a strafin' we go.
But, brother, we're TOO God damn low...

I agree. Further tests showed that LCI's dont like anything except INF LCU's...
