Pz Bn's switch from medium tanks to AG's

Post by PVanDoren »

(My appologies if this is an old question being repeated)

I notice that when there is a shortage of german medium tanks Stug III's will be substituted by the game. (This is over and above the third bn being reorganized as SPAT bn.)
1) If the number of tanks available becomes abundant will there automatically be a substitution back to normal tanks?
2) If there is a shortage of Stug III's will the stug bn's take tanks?
3) If there are no medium tanks or anything else but Tigers will the normal tank bn's switch to Tigers?
4) If so will they switch back if the number of normal tanks builds up?
5) Is there something like this for the Russians?

Hello PVanDoren
Unfortunately the answer to the first four questions is a big no.
There is a hard coded routine in the executable for the replacement of some Panzers with StuG's
Also, Some of the Panzer Bn's start armed with StuG's. (As they are Panzer Bn's in name only.)
The Russians have something similar with the upgrading of T-70's to Su-76's, and KV-II's to Su-152's; But this is simply because the Su-76 is designated as the upgrade of the T-70 and the Su-152 as the upgrade of the KV-II.
Note that the Germans have the same with the Pz-38(t)e, and the Pz-II, as the designated upgrade of the Pz-38(t)e is the Hertzer light TD,
and the upgrade of the Pz-II is the Marder III
This information applies to unmodified OB's only.

WirHack has an option to block this conversion.

It is realistic to have the Stug's substitute but then when the real tanks are available the switch back ought to be able to happen. Oh well. Your answers saved me a lot of experimenting. I don't know if I want the patch.

Get the patch!
You'r going to have this problem regardless of what version you use, so you might as well play with the best avaliable!
(unless, of course, you decide to use wirhack instead!)

You assume that more tanks will be built later to replace the Stugs. Historically, it was the other way around. The Stugs were easier to produce and thus more of them were made than conventional tanks. The Germans never did have enough tanks to go atround.
