Doctrinal Differences

Doctrinal Differences

Post by KG Erwin »

Unfortunately, this is something we can't really simulate in SPWaW. Given the difficulties in establishing realistic AI picks for all situations, it's dang near impossible to do this. Also, we can't make AI behave intelligently in certain situations.

I know that Goblin hates the AI. I have mixed feelings about it. There's little we can do to change it, so maybe I'm wasting space on the topic. I'm just thinking aloud here. Any ideas on how we can tweak it, aside from assigning self-imposed limitations on human force selections?

I don't hate the AI completely. Given a 'script' (user created campaign) it is enjoyable to play. I have played user campaigns exclusively for quite a long time, and the only thing I do not really enjoy is that there are not a heck of alot of longer campaigns out there.

Its when the AI does, well, AI stuff that I just can't play the thing. Let's park ALL of our ATG's 30 hexes back from the battle in some thick woods! I know! We'll place very thick and predictable belts of mines, and then fail to cover them well, allowing the player to smoke and punch just one tiny hole in the field to flood his forces through. Now we'll charge across the open ground to attack the enemy in a single massive wave, without smoke; he only has Tigers and Panthers on the heighths, we may even get one of our 55 tankettes or 50 37mm armed tanks across!

Then there's the "Oh great, another assault."

When a human designs the campaign, he has at least done some of the thinking for the AI. I'm blasting my way through Stalingrad ENH right now. Fun, brutal stuff. [:)][8D] (although I just got frustrated enough to turn mines OFF, something I normally do not do, lol - need a break).

Goblin, I use two programs to generate screenshots: first I capture a bitmap image while running UOSU. Then I use X-NView to resize and convert these into jpeg images. The jpegs are what I upload to display on the forums.

Both of these programs are free. I make it sound complicated, but it really isn't, once you establish the parameters.

Oh, god, I'm talking in geekspeak.

Can someone say this to Goblin in English, or have an easier way for him to post pictures?

Hmmm....

Do we really WANT this guy to have the ability to post pictures and screenshots? [:D]

I agree with everything Goblin has said here
I try to start a long Campaign and after one battle I get bored with it.
The "oh great.. another assault thing" is something I say too....LOL

I also prefer the user made campaigns, 'Watchword Freedom' was one I thought was real good and challenging. Watchword and Balkan Crisis are the only two I have played all the way thru so far.
Both enjoyable.
Of course these are the Enhanced versions

I haven't done it before because I have to

1.) Download multiple programs.
2.) Install said programs.
3.) Figure out how to use program #1.
4.) Figure out how to change results of program #1 into something different with program#2 (which leads to 4a, learn how to use program#2)

Always seemed easier to just post a quick description of what was happening.

-Download UOSU from here (As Sabrejack said):
http://www.hh.iij4u.or.jp/~kmatuoka/uosu/indexe.html

-Place it to your desktop (No special installing, since it's just one file)

-Ensure that Jpeg Compression and Crop Titlebar are both unselected

-Point the directory for UOSU you want your pics to go to

-Keep UOSU open when you'll play SPWAW (it causes no harm since it's so small program)

-Press Print Screen -button when you want to take a pic in SPWAW

-After the game open the pic/s with Paint (since pic/s are currently in bmp format and too large to use), use 'Save As', and save it as Jpeg format (smaller pic)

-Delete the original bmp pic

-Post the jpeg pic

-Redo

-Offer a beer to Korpraali
