Hidden general Ratings option Question

Do hidden General ratings stay hidden the entire game? Or are they displayed after a battle/use etc.?

After a battle there is a chance that one will be revealed.

After a battle there is a chance that one will be revealed.


Problem with this is that you go from knowing too much to knowing nothing at all. Would have been better if we had "unknown stats" that could be one or two "steps" different from the real ratings. Then you would at least have general idea of what the man was like---without absolute knowledge of anything.
