If You Could Dump One Country From the OOB Database...

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

If You Could Dump One Country From the OOB Database...

Post by KG Erwin »

... to allow more room for the Germans, who would it be? My vote would be the Czechoslovakians , as they are more or less a dumping ground for additional German units.

Seriously, though, what active part did they play in the war? Yes, there was the Slovak Fast Division, but the nation itself in WWII was a nonentity for all intents and purposes. I imply no disrespect for any amongst us who are of Czech or Slovakian descent.

The reason I bring this up is to allow for two separate German databases, say one for 1930-42, and the other for 1943-45.

I agree with eliminating the Communist Chinese OOB. Of course, there'll always be someone who plays with those units and designs scenarios using them, regardless of which nation. I also think that there's enough US units, and probably enough Soviet units; to justify removing a "minor" nation that had little to no involvement with the war.

One thing I attempted to do, but not since SPWaW decided it won't let me make any maps; it to try and edit an entire OoB for a what-if mod; "What would the Confederate States of America look like in WWII?" Just something I've always been curious about.

Why just a second German OOB? What about the US, Soviet and British OOBs, all of which are full and still have units missing?

Personally, I'd drop the 2 Spain OOBs to make room for more British and US units and formations.

The 2 Spanish OoB's get my vote. The Communist China OoB's would come in second and the Czechs third.

Of course then comes the question that Flash eluded to...which nation reaps the benefits? [;)]

Of course with the mod swapper we could just switch out mods so those who want to play any what-if Czech / Korean War / Chinese and Spanish Civil War scenarios could still do so...and then allow at least 4 OoB's (mentioned above) to be utilized to help fill out a dedicated 1939-1945 Mod.

OK...back to you guys. [:'(]

why don't u just devise a year changes MOD to be overswaped when u get to say 12/42,, then just swap the german or who ever your playing over in the same slots??
this also brings to mind stuff like if u could build a mod that properly depicted the change in attitude of nations before/after liberation in their areas,, often thought that the games intrpretations of how the POLES attitude in fighting force effectiveness after their freedom POST/d-day wasn't depicted very will,, they were revengeful spitefull cutthroats to their former NAZI occupiers. some of this tenacity to "get them back" is seen in the scenario "wrong hill", but would love to see it in campaign.

Yep, you got the flags (except for S Korea..LOL)
It would included both Koreas, the UK, Comm China and the both US forces.
would be cool, but would be a big pain in the butt.

Well to do a korean era mod, you would need to use one of the existing oobs for South Korea, anyone would do, Nat China would be a good choice, and perhaps Phillipines for N Korea or Russia even since most of the units are similar to N Korea.
as for the other nations, you already have Comm China, USA, USMC, and UK. would just require copying them and updating the units, but thats the hard part, plus the year would always be 1949.

You'd also need either more OOBs or one that covers all the UN forces involved: Turkey, Australia, British, Canadian, Indian, New Zealand, Greece.

I don't think I've ever used any Spanish units in 11 years of playing Steel Panthers.  I have used Communist Chinese and Czechoslovakian and Bulgarian units, very rarely.

I would not complain or be upset if the Spanish and Communist Chinese OOBs were removed and replaced by more popular OOBs.

I would vote to keep the Bulgarians and Czechoslovakian OOBs.
