New patch question?

Post by GBS »

Is the patch advertised on the Matrix home page the same 3.2.141 patch that came out on Nov. 27th?? It wouldn't surprise me as quick as these Matrix guys move. NOT.

Yes they are one and the same. FYI the numbering sequence "3.2.141" translates to Game 3, Patch 2, Build 141. COTA is the third game in the Airborne Assault series ( HTTR being the second and RDOA the first ). We have generated 141 builds so far since we started the series. We generate a new build whenever we make enough changes to warrant going out to beta testing.

Dave makes it sound more methodical than it really is. When Dave really goes on a tweaking binge, he gets too busy to even generate new builds. Then, we have "just throw this new EXE into your directory" methodology. Given that all the multiple EXEs downloaded all show the same build number, it gets even more fun reporting and tracking bugs! I think during Patch #2 testing, we had gotten up to EXE(6) on one build. And then, of course, there is the 2-4 versions of the same scenario being used for testing. Oh, if that isn't confusing enough, we often have debug (for beta/dev work) and release builds (simulates what the customers would actually see) ... and towards the end we abandon the time honored tradition of zips and move on to installers. Oh, it's fun ...

Of course that is why our standards for beta testers are so high. They have to be able to count at least to 6, though I'm thinking of raising that to ten for BFTB. That should weed out a bit of the deadwood. [;)]

From the view of the player it would be easier if the first patch was numbered "1" and
the second patch numbered "2".

I've asked Matrix to remove the earlier patch. So that should clear things up.
