no mouse running under parallels winxp vm

Post by gherndon »

h3 anw ver. 3.7.0
win xp running under parallels build 1970
mac os 10.4.8, macbook pro core 2 duo
2 gig system ram, 512 allocated to parallels vm
1280x800x32bit desktop

h3 anw set to 1024x768 running in window

after app startup, when presented with scenario selection screen, i have no mouse in harpoon window.
i have no trouble with mouse in other windows apps / environment, it just disappears when i move into h3 window focus.

i also do not get a mouse click right or left in h3 window.

any ideas?

well, i've posted questions on parallels forums, harpoonhq and here. i've not been able to get mouse support back after re-installing anw or parallels.

i wish matrix support would at least acknowledge the post and say whether i can expect a fix or maybe give the obligatory 'you're running an unsupported config'.

is anyone else running anw in parallels on a mac?

Anyway, I'll take the crotchety old G3 iBook in to the office today and see if I can run H3 3.7 under QEMU (Windows 2000). Installing XP on parallels on this machine would be a <very long> nightmare so I won't be doing that.

Since Windows Vista is an unsupported environment (though H3 works just fine for me there), I think you can assume that any virtualization product is also officially unsupported and unofficially observed with great interest.

I just read your post again, since you can see a mouse pointer I'm guessing the mouse is working but the machine in emulation just can't keep up with the UI requests, had this happen on an otherwise busy native Windows XP machine the other day.

tony, i'll look for your results.

i'm probably going to install win2k as a guest os and try it there. i need to get my install disks from the office, so it won't be until later this week.

Hehe, ANW installed just fine on Win2k in QEMU but QEMU being so incredibly slow, the game doesn't stand a chance. It produces a nice window "Harpoon 3 Advanced Naval Warfare" but that's about it, no crash or anything. QEMU might be worth a try (with the patches for Intel processors) if you don't get parallels working, interested in what you find either way.

okay, testing win2k pro as guest os in parallels yield same behavior. this is probably a parallels device / driver issue rather than a guest os issue.

i hope parallels can provide a fix for this type of incompatibility.
