I can well imagine many of the same discussions going on with Imperial Japanese commanders. Where to defend, where to tell the troops to stand to the last, where and when to sortie the fleet one last time, it must have been unnerving.

I must say these extra Chinese units are a complete surprise.........he must have airlifted them to Mytk.......I knew he was stripping China...and can afford to.......but I thought I had another 30 days at least.......
I could withdraw to the Tavoy...(not good, can be bombarded by sea...)...Raheang line........but I know once I move.....Rangoon is gone...and his heavy bombers will be able to strike deep into my crumbling empire.........

April 14-17th 1944.........
I've lost 2 - PCs to Speedy subs in the last few days...both in ASW TFs........
14th area Army leaves Wewak....Dest.......Tarakan......
2X IJA BFs leave Wewak.....Dest....HIs.......
3rd Coastal Gun.....leaves Lunga.....Dest......Guam.......
1 IJN BF leaves Saigon......Dest.....HIs......
Units on Einwetok appear to be trapped and cut off...........no way out.........joining my forces on Kwaj....Malolap.....and Tarawa......
Burma still a nightmare.....and now 12 of his Units have disappeared from Moulmein...must be on ships....but I can't get any recon past his CAP.........where to......my guess is the force is to big for Andeman....so probably Rangoon....as the force isn't big enough to flank south of Tavoy......I have but one clapped out Div. at Rangoon.......but another Mix'd Brig.....near by......how much longer before I must withdraw........?....will try and hold a while longer.........

Lost another PC to Speedy's subs.....as he seems to be challanging my ASW groups.......and so far winning......2 new Hunter Killer ASW groups left Tokyo today for sub waters.....
A Mix'd Brig leaves Osaka.....dest....Balikpapan......
35th Army Leaves Tokyo.....destination Saigon........
Speedy did invade Rangoon.......and if I can hold for 8 days......things could get interesting.......reinforcements are on the way......
from the south my forces at Tavoy are going to move on Moul.......if I can get dug in at Moul.....on or about equal terms.....with the Imp. G. Div....on the way.........I can abandon my position north of the river at Moul.......and use thes 1500 troops to support my other weakend forces......

19th April 1944.........
Lost an AK to subs today........
Damaged one of his subs as well......won't sink....but will need yard time.....
Mass air-raid on Balikpapan.......Superforts/Libs/more Libs.....hit the oil facilities......causing much damage....a mixed CAP force of Nicks/Jack/Georges......tried to stop the bombers but to little real value......he lost 6 bombers......me 9-10 fighters......but many damaged bombers flying home....let's hope they don't make it.......flying LRCAP over Balik...next turn with 2 Jack sqdrns.........
Burma........my plan as shown above....will be expanded......once the Tavoy forces reach Moul.....the entire 15 Army north of the river....all 1500 av will move to try and crush his forces at Rangoon.........it may not be enough....but Stephen having split his forces in the face of the enemy....has given me a small window to attack........

Speedy trapped me over Balikpapan......having sent his bomber unescorted last turn he then sent the lightning in on a sweep this turn......I lost 45 fighters to his 9.........you'd think I would learn......he did this to me over PM only 2-3 weeks ago........he'll send the bombers back next....with the lightnings.........so I'm pulling all my airgroups back......at least for now.........

If he makes a breakthrough in Burma.......things will get very messy.....very fast.......and most of the southern DEI is now under the threat of allied bombers....

EDIT: My Dad's ship used to go to Wewak and Hollandia during the war... He said the natives used to make fun of them with a special dance. The lead dancer would hang a wind-up alarm clock around his neck, and everyone would dance around until the alarm-clock went off, and then they'd all fall down and pretend to sleep. They thought it was absolutely hilarious (and stupid) that people would eat, sleep, etc. because it was a certain time of day.... [:D]

21st April 1944........
Hit one of Speedy's subs off Chinese coast.......not sunk...but should spend some time out of the war.......
Another mass air-raid on Balikpapan....oil again the target......cap stood down.......so lots of damage......but, to be frank......I no longer have the tankers to move the oil that is already there.....sneaking out ships from the harbour here in bits and pieces lest he see.......also last reasource convoy is loading up .......
IJN BF to Benjam(whatever) on the SW coast of Borneo......
Eng. Reg pulled out of the line to the north of Rangoon.......just a shell really....heading back to Saigon for refit.....
Speedy is pulling out of Rangoon......so I'm stopping my forces moving from Tavoy.....they will go hide behind their lvl 9 forts .....
Pulled out a Betty 2 sqdrn...and a Helen sqdrn from Lunga......replaced them with Rufes......so hopefully he won't notice they have left....at least for a while.....

One of Speedy's subs challanged one of my new ASW TFs....he has sunk a PC....but lost the sub in return....for me a fair trade.......
Just how many Superforts does he have.....as at least 80 attacked Burma...and I know he has more in Oz......

Speedy has left Rangoon.......he...I think...is finding Burma frustrating.....good, it should be.......but Mandalay is slowly being reduced.......it will take time.....but no more than that.......

The new big PCs are torpedo magnets.......as across the last 3 turns ....I've lost 3 of them.....In return they did badly damage all 3 of the subs that attacked them....but something tells me I'll run out of PCs...before he runs out of subs.....
Lost an AK carrying resources off Tarakan...to sub.....
Mass air-raid on Soerabaja......he lost 6 superforts and 10ish libs......as my mixed Nick/Tojo/Tony cap took a bite.....they bombers were unescorted.....I lost many planes on the ground.....20 bettys and about 25 mixed fighters......am flying LRCAP next turn.....could be another trap....but I want to keep Java airfields open......so I will fight here.....
He deliberate attacked Pagan today....with little success.....so I'm holding the 35th brigade back for a while.......
10 Ind. joins the river/jungle groups north of Rangoon.......

88 Lightnings swept soerabaja......I lost 80 mixed fighters to his 16 lightnings.......a trap.....

More death over Soerabaja.......today a mix of Zekes/Tojos/Jacks flew against his Lightnings......he had 60....about 80.......he lost 19...I lost 37.......getting better.......sort of......
