Pyrrhic Victory

Post by Rossj »

Playing the Union against the AI
good news: I have 75,000 troops north of Washington, keeping an eye on the rebels
bad news: the union troops are of dubious quality and the generals aren't much better
good news: I have four brigades of artillery-Napoleons
bad news: There are 65,000 rebels of good quailty with excellent generals in Northern Va.
good news: they're just sitting there
bad news: they moved into DC
good news: I reformed the army from three districts and took on the confederates
bad news: I expected to be the attacker which can be a daunting task when faced with a superior army
good news: The rebels are considered the attacker. I figure I can sit back and pound them with artillery
bad news: I ambushed the rebels (how, I don't know) and now am on the attack
good news: I ambushed the rebels and they were in disaray
bad news: Many of my brigades can't form into line and fire on the first turn
good news: My artillery can and takes out charging rebel cavalry
bad news: I have only one supply wagon and I can't keep most of the brigades supplied
good news: My artillery causes devastating casualties while my infantry surrounds a large part of the confederate force
bad news: Most of the rebs escape
good news: Three brigades surrender. 14,000 rebel casualties/7,000 union
bad news: Union army is hit by disease: 15,000 casualties
good news: I kicked the rebs out of D.C.
