TrackIR support

Starshatter: The Gathering Storm extends the classic space sim by combining fighter and starship combat in a single dynamic campaign game.

I don't have SS yet (hope to get soon), but in using TrackIR v 4 for other games, i don't use any specific game presets.
Example - if i use it in a flight game, i just select a preset for "Flying game" (generic i guess) in the TrackIr app. when i load the game itself, there's an option to turn on trackIr support.
Same for a racing game - just choose the "Racing game" setup and in the game itself, turn on the support.

Again - i don't have SS, but was wonderng if it would be similar. Is there any option in the game itself to activate the TrackIr support?

I haven't found any way of turning TrackIR support on inside the game. When you use the generic profiles The TIR 4.0 software still notices when you run a game (for example Starshatter) and then checks which profile you've chosen for the specific game. By default they're categorized by their genre, which in this case would be "Space" and all the games in the Space list use "Default profile" as default. Now the problem seems to be that Starshatter isn't on the recognized games' list, TIR doesn't even realize that there's a TIR-enabled game running and never goes into enhanced mode.

I believe you can work around this by forcing a profile to be loaded in the TIR software regardless of game launch.  Of course, the issue then is enabling TIR Enhanced support in-game.

There is some kind of support in the game, you can see hints of it in the log files. How can I force the 4.x software into enhanced mode without enhanced software running?

This is bogus. No moderators moderating the forums and saying anything. Hmm....just ignore it and it will go away attitude.

Therein lies the problem.  I know that the game must directly support enhanced mode, but the game still may need to be recognized by the TIR software in order to actually put the TIR into enhanced mode.  Upon review, being able to override the default profile may not get us anything.

I've also failed at being able to create a profile that works. I'm using TrackIR 4.1 build 28 and have tried creating a Profile for "Starshatter: The Gathering Storm" and "Starshatter : The Gathering Storm". After miniminzing the game (patched of course to 5.0.1) its a bit hard to tell if there is a space after the colon. In either case . . . . both versions fail to detect the game after it starts. I just looked at the errlog.txt file that is created and saw the following just before the RUN section :

*** NaturalPoint Game Client Initialization ***
NPClient - Initialize successful.
NPClient - Window handle registration successful.
NPClient - NaturalPoint software version: 4.00
NPClient - Cursor stopped.
NPClient - Data transmission started.
Loading System Designs 'sys.def'

It looks like the game is seeing the TrackIR software, but that line "Cursor Stopped" cannot be good <grin>. It has mis-identified the software, but since its still in the 4.0 family I'm not worried about that. Sure would be nice to get some OFFICIAL feedback here (Nudge Nudge . . . Grin Grin . . . Know What I Mean?).

In the mean time . . . . we wait . . . . . .

I did see that thread before I posted . . . . and there has been nothing new since that I have seen.

A pity too. That thread made it seem as if Matrix and Naturalpoint were communicating. We just need an update.

Kamikaze,

This is off-topic..but why is your avatar of a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, when your screen name is kamikaze? Seems like a real mismatch.

Does anyone know if it's possible to control the virtual cockpit with the mouse?

Here's a message from Naturalpoint:

Official word :
the game will indeed have support for TrackIR’s latest software soon - in the form of a patch
