Seeing as how the thing is infected with StarForce, I'd say it's probably safe to assume that not a lot of people around here play it...[8|]

StarForce is a much-maligned copy protection program that installs itself on your PC without asking for permission or even given notification about itself. It has been known to cause severe damage to peoples' computers, including making it impossible to burn CD's and DVD's, and it's exceptionally difficult to get rid of, because it buries itself really deeply into your system. Even if you uninstall a StarForce "protected" game, this trojan (that is what it is) stays on your computer.

I played it when it first came out and was pretty happy with it.  I stopped when it seemed to get monotonous and when the air cover became too cumbersome and accurate.  It basically became a conflict between having long transit distances to arrive at the patrol zone and not being able to effectively time compress due to the intense air umbrella.  This might be realistic but it makes for a lot of boring times staring at the map :-(

Aside from that when a convoy has been encountered then it is worth it's weight in gold.  I understand that SH4 is hoping to correct alot of this by having several small op areas as opposed to the whole atlantic and enhancing the dynamic campaign with non-patrol oriented orders such as picking up down flyers etc.

No -- hopefully. Ubi has dropped Starforce from their more recent games.

I played SH years ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth. It was fun. It was actually more fun to try to save a badly damaged boat and get her back to Pearl, than it was to sink Kongo. Original Silent Hunter was one of the great games-- just a notch below PacWar....

Speaking of dinosaur submarine games, I played Silent Service II back in the day. That was a very cool game; aaaah, Microprose...
