Grouper or that lack there of

Post by turgotZ »

Seems the grouper client is being discontinued as of the 18th this will pose a problem. The community will need to find some other why to host the SS mods.Currently there's about 2.6gb of mod files. I'll do some looking to find an alternative. If you have any idea's let hear them.

Ugh... that's bad news. Sure there are things like filefront and such... but grouper had more advantages than just file sharing. There was a built-in newsboard where everyone could post their updates and such (at least in the version I knew, not sure how it evolved).

Starshatter site and Matrix pays the bill [:D]

By the way, what's status of Pheagey and his SSD sites?

Thanks for the suggestion, I don't feel their service would be appropriate. I do not own all the works that I have and do not feel it is my choice to upload them to this type of site with this type of usage term(see below). I will leave it to the authors of the mods to choose if they want to use this service.

Matti has a fine idea [:)]

I have found one option that is similar to grouper's functionality some may remember it from the 90s Hotline or at least a open source version of it GLoarbLine.
The break down:
- message board system similar structure to forums
- its not p2p but client server
- irc like chat/private message/
- Resumable file transfer (upload and download)
- no install needed
- user rights assignments

I'll setup a test server if anyone is interested 72.38.179.74:4905 Logon:guest no password
you will need to forward the following ports for the client to work correctly 5500, 5501, 5002 and 5503

The last post by Pheagey was right after the release of TGS so he may still be active in the community.

I have played a few of his mods and always felt they were top quality stuff.

Here is the link to his site, which still seems to be active.

That solves it. Call to Pheag or go knock on his door and work things out.

WOW! Welcome back, Pheag! Yeah, I'm still around... becouse I'm playing SPWAW again and I thought to keep this on eye too. Even milo has shown lifesigns here [&o]

Anyways if you have DamoclesX's e-mail, ask him if he has updated Hold the Line and/or other mods. And ask wdboyd about his Cartel-mod.

What comes to me, I had seldom played Starshatter 4.5 and got most part of Operation Firestorm, but now it seems that my joystick has worn off. It wasn't properly centered in the first place, and now it's much worse.
