Appears Broken

Post by Call Me Earl »

Me and a friend just purchased this game for online play. The game appears to have the Campaign/Strategy depth that we enjoy playing. Unfortunately, the play by TCP/IP appears to be broken. I select remote game, then the TCP/IP option, a little box pops up and I do not enter anything and hit "OK". I then select host game and the game takes me to a multiplayer set-up screen. My friend selects TCP/IP game and enters my IP address and nothing. The game can't seem to find my IP address and does not give him a game to join.

We play many TCP/IP games and he never has had a problem connecting to my IP address. I am running a cable modem with my XP firewall turned off. I even shut down Norton's which made no difference.

I hosted a game myself, then opened a second game on my CPU and connected to the hosted game. What seemed odd was the game name that came up for me to join was my JNCS computer name and not an IP address ? I was able to join and the game appeared to work correctly.

We have tried about everything we can think of to get connected, but nothing works. If anyone could tell us what we may be doing wrong, I would really appreciate it. We are really looking forward to sinking our teeth into this game. Thanks for any help.

Have you tried having your friend host?

My brother and I had a few problems also. I had to manually add FoF to the windows firewall exception list. The host does show the Computer name and not the IP address to the client. We have not had any problems connecting since. I am in VA he is in CO.

The real problem for TCPIP right now is that the detailed battle has a problem. The second detailed battle in a session will cause a CTD for the client. We have to save and restart the program after we have a detailed battle.

I think you're looking at a firewall issue here. You need to open up some ports.

If you want, you can email me at alan.bernardo@gmail.com

and we can try and get things working.

Thanks for ur reply Dan, but my friend has DSL and can't host. Turning off my XP firewall Should eliminate it from being a problem. Although, I did add it to my exceptions list and will try the game again later today. Seems odd, all the other TCP/IP games we play, we have no trouble.

Is anyone else having this "2nd battle" problem? I've been unable to duplicate it so far.

DSL shouldn't prevent your friend from being able to host.  Is use this URL to get my IP http://www.mywanip.com/  If your friend finds his IP from this website, he may be able to try to host.  Can you confirm that the IP you're giving your friend is your WAN IP?  (Computers on a local network have local IP's that apply only on the local network.)
