Going a little Crazy

Post by siRkid »

Ok somehow I keep putting my troops onboard ships and then can't get them off. First, can some one tell me how to get my men off the darn ships and second can the developers add a "Do you want to board ship?" check to make sure you really want to board a ship. And while I'm at it can we please have an undo button. I'm always moving men by accedent.

The backspace button undoes your moves.

I hear what you are saying - the user interface makes it way to easy to move things you don't want to move and difficult to move them where you want them to move when you do want it. And when you right click to "unselect" a unit you often get the popup of a province or unit you do not want to select and have to close that popup.

Makes for a lot of frustration and mistakes.

Thanks, I haven't printed out the manual yet and hate to read them online. If I'm online, I'm playing.[;)]
Now if I could only get them off the ships.

I've had this problem as well. You need to make sure your "Fleet Container" is in a province that can actually be moved into by land forces as well. Then enter the "Fleet Container screen" (right-click on it) that has the land units aboard, highlight the unit you want to take off, and "close". If your next "left click" is on a legitimate area of the same province (river or otherwise). the land unit should pop up there. Danged thing is "touchy" as all get out, and half the time you can't tell what province you are in, but I eventually got it to work.... Good luck..., and my sympathies.

I just tried this out last night... to reinforce the peninsula(ie the Level3 Fort with one garrison), you can walk them through the ANV(assuming that they will let you[:D]) or move them by ship. To move units between Armies and division, forts and such, I always right click on the province. This will list everything in the province, ships as well, then you can easily load them ( not by accident) then i moved my ships out to the water. Right click on the water, grab the unit and move the cursor over the land province, the cursor now says 'Unload' (instead of 'Go'). I believe that you can unload on any province not just certain ones.

I did notice that I could not conquer the 'Rappahanock' ( I assume it is because it does not touch Union Territory) But if that is the case can you Conquer New Orleans? Has anyone done this?

Also I have noticed that you can load an extra brigade in forts and cities if you first place a Container with troops in it then load one extra onto the city/fort itself ( ie. a Division with 6 Br plus one not in the Division). So you can load 6 into a city, 7 into a Level 3 fort, 5 in a Level 2, 3 in a Level 1. This little extra can add up, saving lots of supply and sheltering more units during Winter. Not sure if you are supposed to be able to do this?

Also you can only undo( up to 500 moves) on the main screen, not on any of the menus. So just back out of a submenu to undo a problem. Of course you need to cross your fingers that you don't have to undo to much. By the Way Undo does not work on Saved Games.

Good Luck!
BTW the Manual is Awesome, Worth its weight in Gold. My Printer let me do 4 pages of manual on each sheet of Paper. The writing is small but I could not afford the Ink usage.

Also Developers please note!!!!! Please do not use color and textured backgrounds for the manual, it uses a ton of Ink, which for my printer is $30 per cartridge. I used grayscale and it also makes it harder to read.

Highblooded!  There is a stripped down version of the manual included that does not have the background graphics!!  Print that one!  (I'm typing on my "developer" machine right now and don't have FOF installed on this one, so I can't tell you the name of the stripped down manual offhand, but it shouldn't be hard to find.)

I'm looking into allowing undoes on the subscreens, by the way.  Hopefully won't be too hard to implement.

A nation can't conquer a province if it doesn't border territory it already owns.  You can, however, conquer individual forts and cities this way.  Since units in garrison don't consume supply, once the invader conquers a fort/city he won't have to worry so much about paying the large supply costs that invasions normally require.

The version of the manual without the textured background is FOF-Manual-[LIGHT}.pdf. It's in the Manuals folder.

Ooops[:D] ... I should have looked around before pressing print[;)] could have saved some time and ink. It's still the best manual I've come across in some time.

Hopefully others will take notice of this.

I had figured you could still take the cities and forts, thanks for clearing that up.

Enjoy the Game folks, we've got a good one here![&o]
