Pilot traning option?

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Pilot traning option?

Post by Mac Linehan »

Gents,

Ment to ask this yesterday, forgot to do so. Has there been any thought or consideration towards allowing pilots to be placed in a training mode as per War in the Pacific? It might be helpful in preping some of the lower quality (or trained) units such as the Italians, Romanians or Hungarians. Seems an obvious step, but my veiw might be skewed.

Thanks, Mac

we have set up a training systems with in how the game works, one hassle is we are working with a older engine

but the basic idea is, if a "nation" does not use up all of it's pilots it gets for a turn, then each day afterward, it's pilots are seen as being in training and get a chance to get a 1 point bonus to the starting stats (which it is capped)

each nation has it's own pilot pool/numbers

which it is going to be HARD to really get anything good out of this, and it is not perfect, it is better then what we had

Yeah, I expect it will take some refining, but it addresses 2 failings of the original.

Formerly, if a nation used few pilots, then had a big loss, then there was no pool, resulting in a deficit.

Then, if a nation used few pilots, new pilots would come at the prevailing training level irrespective of how much extra time they had "in training"

Now, there is a *very* limited pool, it's not possible to rack up hundreds, or even dozens of pilots in the pool, you just get a very limited amount of pilots who are allowed to do some extra training before being sent to the front. If you lose a lot of pilots all the time, you'll never get better pilots except through the darwinian process of combat.

Hard Sarge and Harley - sounds like you are on the ball and thinking things through.  What's exciting is knowing that not only will Eagle Day be a fine game, but that the Matrix team will continue to support and enhance Eagle Day as time goes on.

well part of the idea is to get all the work that was done before into the basic model, corrected and updated, and then fix the bugs we knew about and complained about and then to add in stuff we have wanted to be in the game for oh so long, and still have a chance to keep doing so down the road

How will we know if we have surplus pilots receiving training?  Is there now a pilots pool table available for viewing.  Also do we now have the option of not drawing pilots from the pool into units thus allowing for training to occur?

As of now, no there is no pool to view, if we have time, I have asked Harley to try and set up some kind of report, telling the player what is going on, but for right now, that is more on the wish list, then it is done, no, if units need pilots, they will pilots on there own

Thanks for the reply, Hard Sarge.  I assume that the wish list contains items that may (subject to constraints) appear in a future patch as interface enhancements.  After all, there will be no bugs that need to be squashed in future patches.

Well we can hope and try to make sure there are none, but, that can be a HARD one to do :)

but if we can't get it in now, we hope to be able to later on

Will the state of the Axis fuel reserves factor in this as well?
