Recommendation - BOA or FOF?

Post by wesy »

I only have budget for one this month - which one would you choose? BOA or FOF? I have COG and For Liberty, but wasn't sure which one to choose of the two above

I am interested in the same things as Wesy... I'm going to buy one of these games but not sure which. Would like opinions from people who have both.

I have bought both...unfortunately, I have only played FoF...I haven't had time to play BoA yet.

I can vouch for FoF, though. My experience of the game is that it's very in depth. I love the strategic layer (I have only played one detailed battle)

Alot of people rave about BoA, though.

Sorry...I realise that isn't alot of help. I would recommend FoF as a purchase, simply because I'm playing it and I am enjoying it.

How long is a piece of string? They are both very good games, but very different ones. If you have to choose, pick according to their relative merits. Which period interests you the more? How much time do you have? BoA plays a lot quicker and is much easier to learn, while still having an awful lot of depth - but FoF is the 'deeper' game - although BoA is possibly the more 'realistic', if that's your bag. FoF probaly has more replay value over the long haul, but if you are unlikely to play anything for more than a few months anyway, does that matter? The ageod Civil War game will be out long before you get bored of BoA. Don't forget there's a demo of BoA so you can at least try that before you make your mind up. You might still have a choice if you do, but if you don't your troubles are over.

Buy one this month and the other next month, they'll still be around and possibly patched one more time.

If you've played COG, then you might want to branch out and try BoA - a completely different engine.  It's very fun - zero resource management (beyond supply) and no diplomacy really.  Just a good old march and fight kind of game.  Two thumbs up.
