The Mod of War. Forge of Freedom July 1861

Post by Williamb »

Since I finally have the game went and did alot of modification of the July 1861 scenario. Wanted to achieve both a historical look as well as a ahistorical game at the same time. So I moded the files so to start generals at different ranks and starting times. And I researched and corrected who does and doesnt get cavalry ratings in that scenario as well as totally removing the South's Fleets only leaving blockade runers.

AS a start here is both sides starting generals. I plan to name every brigade to add more flavor and run the whole civil war from July 1861.

One key house rule at the start. No grand promotions of generals. Any general can only go up one rank. So a Brigader General (one star) can only be promoted to a Major General (two stars) and a Major general can only be Promoted to a Lt General (3 stars) ect .....

This sets up the command problems that the Union will face historically from the start.

I hope to upload my mod to the mod section soon.

Here first is the Union Generals

Looks interesting. I hope you will make a mod for all of us [:D]. Very nice job.
BTW, will you change the flags as well?

You may have noticed Im keeping the generals in the normal starting positions. That is to give every general at least a chance to do better than they did historically. If they fail then its demotion and removal to obscure outposts. Victories will determine who stays and who goes.

So next is the Western Viriginian Division. Commanded by Major General G. MCClellan. He has Bad Inititive. Excellent Leadership. Normal Tactics and Fair Command.

He teaches Obedience and Discipline.

His troops are 5 Brigades from various states. 13,000 Men

The Mountaineer brigade (2k)
The Freemen Brigade (2k)
The John Adams Brigade (2k)
The Thomas Jefferson Brigade (3k)
The Albany Tigers (3k)

Halleck Was still on his way from California in July and wasn't in Missouri until late November. A.S. Johnston was also enroute from Californis and didn't take command in the west until mid september.

Chris,

You should post a modified Generals' file per your research in the mod forum or just post a list of what you feel should be changed. We're going over the Generals file right now for the next update and any and all input is appreciated.

Regards,

Im currently out of town visiting relatives during the holidays hope to update this when I get back.

Will also email all those interested in this mod when I get the chance.

All I edited was the starting scenario files for July 1861. Isnt a complete edit yet still have some Id like to do when I get more time.

As for the issue of Halleck and AS Johnson Id think I can argue that they have been given command of these troops and their staffs are in place. I really dont plan any quick offensive actions as I veiw the first few turns as being time spent getting the armies up and running. The key thing for me is that they are in place to take command and not "In transit". Of course some will want a more accurate game than I have made here.(I only did some mods like I said. Still have alot more Id like to do.)

No mod is ever going to make everyone happy. But this is why Im doing an AAR to see who might like this mod.

Thanks for the interest !

There are two parts to the mod I gave to them.

One part is the edits for the July 1861 Scenario. Those txt files go into the july 1861 scenario folder. Might want to back up your files before you copy over them.

The other part was a save game file that was my first turn as the union. That can go into the save game folder.

Will clear it up when I get home tonight.

William Amos, where are you!!????!!

The link at Brett's Tredagar Iron Works to your mod doesn't work, it says database unavailable.

However, I did download your 3 files from one of the threads here. I ha your mod working just fine on my old compooter, but underwent a rebuild or two and now must again update FoF with your mod, which won't be a problem fro me.

Mainly, I just wanted to know if you are still around, OK I hope, and if you are just waiting for the new patch or what??

Also, I can't find the flag mod that either you or someone I think named Jim made. does anyone her know where this flag mod file(s) is/are at??

Anyway, hope things are good with you and to say once again your mod worked very well and I enjoyed it.

Thanx, Chris
