Here in the Northwestern US, we're having one of the weirdest winters I've ever seen. It's supposed to be an el Nino year, which usually means temperatures in the 50s F (10-15C) and lots of rain from the tropics. We've had the rain, November was the wettest on record, but it's also cold. We've seen snow twice already, and that only usually happens once every 2 years. Right now it's 32 F (0 C), with freezing rain and high winds.

My GF/psuedo spousal unit was commenting today that the two coasts have swapped weather. The east coast is abnormally warm and we're abnormally cold.

Snowed like hell out there today (Colorado).  Didn't look like your going to get a break from it either.  Glad I'm not driving truck anymore.  Though they did have a bar across the street from the Sapp Bros. truck stop in Denver.[:D]  That's where I would've been tonight if I was there.

BTW John & Niceguy - I used to parctialy live out your way when I drove.  Picking up loads out of the meat patch (Greely, Ft. Collins, and Kansas).  And getting the beer from Golden (Coors).

OK.

BLIZZARD Update:  My wife just went outside to get the diaper bag and cell phone and the drifts are above her HIPS!  We have over 20" on the ground with 30MPH wind!  I haven't seen this kind of snow since the blizzard of March a couple of years ago.  It is GREAT!  I cannot wait to take my 3 year-old out in it tomorrow.

Everything here is shut down:  airport, highways, EVERYTHING!

I just tried to upload a picture taken by my wife a few minutes ago and the file was too large.  It shows the area between her car and our main door.  You see a lump on the right (her car) and a drift halway up the door.

WOW!  Will be...fun...to dig out...

John, I grew up in Upstate NY and remember a few blizzards (had chickpox during one). There was a small town in the school district called Paris and one area of the highway had a special snowblower stationed there. It was taller than an 18 Wheeler as the drifts would get that high!![X(][X(]  I remember the family car going through it during the winter.

What's the site? I'm interested in this stuff.

A geophysicist friend of mine and I believe that we may be on the verge of another ice age. The ice core records show that it always gets a lot warmer just before the ice starts. It could be 50-100 years of warming before it gets cold, but in geologic time that's nothing.

It's official.  20.8 inches of snow at the Airport. 7th snowiest since 1946. [X(][X(][X(] I have experienced the #1 in March 2003 and #3 in Xmas Eve 1982. [:)]

Hey Scott!

We ended up with 23" of snow in La Salle.  I spent an hour and a half diggin my car out!  The snow drifts were as tall as my 5'2" wife.

Got 7 turns is today and that helped!

Be thankful for that one turn! We just got our electricity back last night after our big wind storm on the 14th. No electricity, no heat, no water... had to go to a motel.... no computer, no turns, no WitP forum... the inhumanity of it all!

Then, on top of that, my wife says we're going to stay with her mother! [:@]Thank god the power came back... thank you... thank you... thank you... [&o] [&o] [&o]

John, maybe you could use some of your "free time" after shoveling to update your AAR with Cap & Co.  [;)]

Well, no offense to the celsius using folks, but farenheit is more accurate, isn't it?

Something I always wondered is what those ovens in those countries use.  Do you bake food
at 450 degrees F   or 232.2 degrees celsius?

And what ever happened to centigrade?

Is snowfall measured in centimeters in Europe?  Inquiring minds want to know [:D]

Sorry for babbling on, but I really am curious (and bored I guess)

True, a degree Fahrenheit is 5⁄9ths of a degree Celsius. For scientific purposed, you can always add a decimal, for everything else the scale is fine enough.
Something I always wondered is what those ovens in those countries use. Do you bake food
at 450 degrees F or 232.2 degrees celsius?
LOL! The temperature in our ovens are measured in celsius, of course. But then, our recipes use celsius, too... [;)] And do you really think the difference between 232.2 and 232 celsius matters when baking?

BTW, "those countries" = the entire world except the USA. [:D]
And what ever happened to centigrade?
Different word, same thing.
Is snowfall measured in centimeters in Europe? Inquiring minds want to know [:D]
Yes. More precise than inches, BTW... [;)]
