Game over -

Post by Tobar »

[:-] I just finished my first game - took about about a week. The end game splach screen although a very welcome sight is extremely disappointing. You get the screen and then are dumped back to the main menu. I would like to have some type of end game report...but you would think you could at least view the final somehow.....very bittersweet. I have no clue what the final casualty amounts, victory totals - or even what put me over the top.

[:)]On the other hand like a good book with a bad ending...it was still a lot of fun getting there.

I haven't finished a game yet, would be nice to see those sort of end-reports though. Like you would read in a history book.

Whilst I haven't seen one in this game yet I heartily agree that the Victory Screen/Victory announcement is one major area game developers fail understand for the motivational factor they provide.

One major game developer I know of is absolutely appalling in this area. So much so that imo, reaching the end of a scenario is a total let down.

Developers - give players something to play for! Not so much big glitzy Flash shows but something atmosphere building with congratulations or commiseration screens relating a player's achievements to history, future ramifications and enabling players to analyse their performances to the full.

Giving players the drive to play again and stay with your game systems for a long time!

Season's Greetings all.

Also agree...definitely a letdown considering the amount of time getting to the endgame.

Agree. And the game should not immediately close down -- you should have a chance to return to the game and gloat.

Gil and I spent the morning talking about adding a statistics screen (or screens) before the final victory announcement, so we may be able to include something like this in an update. At this point we've got a lot of requests for added features -- much more than we can add in updates -- so for now it's a matter of sorting out the high priority requests. It looks as though this request is fairly high priority.

I consider it high priority too! Id like to be able to:
1) revisit the map
2) click on all units, both friendly and enemy to see where everyone is
3) same as #2, but for cities
4) Have statistics that include
-casualties
-# battles won/lost
-statistics for major battles

I second Crimguy's suggestions and also consider this is high priority.

Tone down the losses due to march attrition and link them to the disposition of the unit, "zealous" or "inspired" men are much less likely to desert or fall out of ranks than those who are of a "low disposition", and instead add a loss of "disposition" as a result of marching and a bigger loss for force marching. Men with sore feet and poor rations are much more difficult to inspire.

We can do something like this... this is a good case though where having rules that players can turn on/off makes it harder to design the game: if players have march attrition turned ON and disposition turned OFF, then a march attrition rule that lowers disposition isn't going to do very much. We ran into a lot of design "roadblocks" like this, but adding some factor for disposition is a good idea.

Wow. I love the game. At first I was a little dissapointed, but at some point a few days ago I really started understanding the game better. What a great experience:balancing the economy and military is great. It is not easy, just as it must have been difficulty during the war.

BUT when I finished the game I was let down. I too want something more, such as a list of battles, stats., and so forth. This seems the most important fix to me.
